It says in the Bible that God rules and reigns over everything — in heaven and in earth. When we read Genesis, we see that God created men and also we read about God’s intentions for men. God created us to rule and reign on earth as God’s ambassadors. So God’s original plan was for people to be a ruler and care-taker for God. We can read about that in Genesis (1:26-28):

« Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth ”».

These verses tell us that before defining man’s role and function on earth, God created the man in His image and according to His likeness. This likeness gave people the ability to fulfill their function on earth and effectively carry out their mission from God. The verses above allow us to make the following conclusion:

In order for us to function effectively in the area appointed to us by God and to have legal basis for authority to rule on the earth for God, it is necessary for us to have the nature of God developed in us.

The one that does not have God’s image and nature cannot rule on earth. Life on earth is only maintained and ruled by the character and nature of the Author of life – the Almighty God. When we neglect this important fact and take it out of the whole picture, death and destruction take the place of life and creation. Any form of authority that is void of the nature of God Who is the King of kings is lifeless. Such government only leads to destruction and death.

Based on all of this, we can conclude that character is the fundamental issue of life in the Kingdom of God. Character is fundamental to our spiritual authority. It is the foundation for dominion and ruling along with God on earth. Our ability to bring forth life is rooted in our nature and not in our gifts or anointing.

So God first created the man in His image and according to His likeness and only after that did He told the man to rule and govern the earth. Only after the man received God’s nature, he received from Him the authority and ability to rule and govern the earth for God.

Tomorrow we will continue on this topic!

God bless you!

Pastor Rufus Ajiboye
It says in the Bible that God rules and reigns over everything — in heaven and in earth.
