We also said that breakthrough changes the status of the person experiencing it in life. Today I would like us to start focusing on the factors upon which our breakthrough in life depends.

Let’s read once again the story of our hero.

“Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God: And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him” (Acts.3: 1-10).

I will begin by asking one important question which that should help us to discover the factors upon which a man’s breakthrough in life depends. And this is the question: Why is it that the breakthrough of our hero took forty years to manifest, since God so eagerly desired to give him a miraculous touch? What prevented him from receiving the breakthrough earlier?

The answer to this question will open our eyes to see why many people do not experience breakthrough in the life today.

Let’s consider some of the reasons.

Getting accustomed to the situation.

Very often people get used to their situations and will not try to do anything to change their state of being. This lame guy got used to sitting on the same spot for 40 years and probably did not believe in any change any more.

I read this story about one dog that has been tied to a pillar. Each time the dog tried to run, she felt the restriction. After several attempts the dog got used to its position. And even after this dog was untied, it still continued to move around only within the habitual radius.
Here is one more story which illustrates this same point: in one big aquarium two fishes were placed, one of them was predatory, and the other was not. Between the fishes a barrier of transparent glass was placed as a demarcation line so that the predatory fish will not eat up the other fish. Each time when the predatory fish tried to swallow the second fish, it only hit the transparent glass barrier, and then turns back at once in the opposite direction. After several such attempts, it automatically turns back, as soon as it reaches the place where the barrier was fixed. This continued even after the barrier was removed.

Let’s now turn to the story of another lame man described in the Gospel of John:

“Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath” (John 5: 2-9).

This sick person too has almost surrendered after several unsuccessful attempts. All the time he has being waiting for someone who could help, but all was in vain until Jesus got to the spot. Whenever Jesus comes into your situation everything changes to the best possible way. Do not get used to your situations. Call on Jesus, and He will help. Do not put your trust or hope in people, but rely on the Lord. He is your Helper. May help find you today in Jesus Name!

If you need breakthrough then don’t agree with that which is not your destiny in the Lord. Be like Jabez who though was born with illness, refused to be identified with such a destiny. He prayed and called upon God for help because he did not want to get use to his illness. As a result of his efforts God did not only healed him, but Jabez became more honourable than his brethren who were born healthy.

“And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested” (1 Chronicles 4: 9-10).

Dear friends, the word from God for you today is this: do not get use your to a tragedy and misfortune in life, rather resist them! It is high time for you to look at the situation with the eyes of God.

May the Lord bless you this day!
Pastor Rufus Ajiboye
Getting accustomed to the situation.
Very often people get used to their situations and will not try to do anything to change their state of being.
