God’s Word is spiritual food

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ! Welcome to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! We have been discussing the fact that the Word of God is called ‘light’ in the Bible. By filling your heart with God’s Word on a daily basis, you fill your life with God’s light. Besides, it says in the Bible that God’s Word is water. It is spiritual water that cleanses us from the things that defile our lives. We read in the Bible that God’s Word also is a mirror. We all look at ourselves in the mirror daily. God wants us to also look into the spiritual mirror. We look into the mirror to see how we look. Before coming to work I looked at myself in the mirror to see that I look decent. We use our mirrors more than once every day. God gave us His Word for the same reason – so that we would check our inner ‘look’ and inner order:
«For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does» (James, 1:23-25).
I know, some people do not look into a mirror because they dislike themselves. A mirror reflects everything about us as it is. If you are overweight, the mirror tells it; if you are skinny, you will see it in the mirror etc. So a mirror shows us how we look and sometimes we like what we see and other times we do not. The same can be said about God’s Word which is given to us to show us our inner condition. When we read it we see God’s standard and thoughts and also our spiritual condition. Physical mirror does not show us those things. So it is very important to read the Word. If I want to know what my spiritual ‘appearance’ is, I must look into the Word. When I do it I learn what is wrong with me and what I should fix or change. This is the way to stay ‘spiritually fit’. God’s desire is for every one of us to be ‘spiritually fit’. We cannot neglect God’s Word. The Bible is meant for daily use. EVERY DAY we need light, water and mirror – both physically and spiritually. Besides, every day we also need food – both physical and spiritual. God’s Word is spiritual food necessary to maintain spiritual strength. God wants us to be strong and healthy not only physically, but also spiritually. We do not need ‘spiritual fasts’. We can have physical fasts in order to gain spiritual power. But in order to become spiritually strong, we should daily feed on the Word. If you do not do it, you get weaker as a believer; you get weaker in your judgments and in your faith. When we get weaker we must ‘eat’ spiritually; that is what God’s Word is there for:
«…as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby» (1 Peter, 2:2).
It says here that we need to desire and love the pure milk of the word. God’s Word is milk to the newly saved. We want for the young believers to grow spiritually. This growth is simply impossible without the spiritual milk which is God’s Word. By milk we mean the foundations of Christian faith – the elementary biblical teachings. What we are talking about right now is spiritual milk; it is not solid spiritual food. Sometimes we can’t talk about solid food, because we do not know the milk yet. The problem of many believers is that they feed on the spiritual milk. The one who only drinks milk is not able yet to consume solid food, because his system is not ready for it. Apostle Paul addressed some believers saying that he wasn’t able to preach to them on certain issues because they were not ready to digest them. So Paul fed them with spiritual milk. We should drink this special milk, because then we will grow. Afterwards we will be able to leave milk and eat spiritual bread:
«…as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby» (1 Peter, 2:2).
Do you want to experience spiritual growth? The Bible says that in order for that to happen you need to love God’s Word:
«Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God» (Mathew, 4:4).
May God abundantly bless every one of you! Till tomorrow! Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Sin is the root of the evil

«He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil» (1 John, 3:8).The devil deceived Adam and Eve who were reflecting the glory of God in the earth, because he hated God and all the things that brought glory to God. Adam and Eve were given a free will and a right to choose and they decided to disobey God and submit to the voice of the devil. That is how sin entered their life and the life of all of the generations after them. They gave themselves and their posterity into the hands of death. And since that time death has begun its reign over people.
  • Life is a test

Once we understand our life is a test, many questioned get solved by themselves and we can rejoice and enjoy our life. Those who understand that life is a test, they treat every difficult situation as an opportunity, not as an obstacle. The Bible often tells us how God tests His children. He is not doing it because He hates us nor because He wants to see our fall. Not at all! God puts us in test for few reasons. God blessed Abraham with a son first, then tested him asking to sacrifice his son on the altar. God allowed ordeals in Job’s life, then Job went through all that horror and bitterness.
  • Are you growing in your walk with God?

It is God desires for every one of His children to continue to grow in their relationship with Him. The reason is obvious from the Bible: until we grow up, we won’t be able to enjoy the privileges God has provided for us as His sons and daughters.“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: {elements: or, rudiments}” (Galatians 4: 1-3).
  • How does a truly responsible person look like? II

A responsible person is organized, disciplined and diligent even when nobody watches him or her. Such a person determines what he needs to do, when he needs to do it and makes the necessary effort to accomplish it. A responsible person submits to what he needs to do. Since he understands the importance of being responsible, he cannot be idle or inert. A responsible person effectively uses his time, his energy and his resources.
  • Do not live without vision!

Today I would like to share with you a word about building or constructing your future. The truth is that we are a product of what we see. In order for us to reach any goals in life, we have to first see (visualize or imagine) them. So many people do not advance and move forward because of the lack of vision; they only live in the ‘now’. Very often people do not have any future plans; they do not have a clue of what goals they want to reach in this life.
