Lay hold on eternal life!

Welcome, precious children of God, to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!

I pray that God’s grace would fill your life today. I would title today’s message as “Lay hold on eternal life!” To my mind, this is a very important topic considering the events that surround us these days.

«But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses» (1Timothy, 6:11-12).

In this passage of Scripture Paul talks about that our Christian life has three aspects: According to it, we must:

  1. flee sin;
  2. pursue righteousness;
  3. fight the good fight of faith.

The combination of these three aspects eventually helps us to lay hold on eternal life. Anyone who belittles these things is at risk of losing the most precious gift that has been given to us by God, – eternal life. Fleeing, pursuing and fighting require some effort. But if a person has decided to lay hold of eternal life, then he or she will do everything in their power to reach this goal. There are some things in this life that are more important than others on the scale of values and priorities. One of the most life issues for a believer has to do with eternal life. We have been given the tremendous privilege of living with God and getting to know him through the eternity, – that is what eternal life is. We have been given the privilege of enjoying God and His presence forever. Eternal life has its beginning here, on earth – within the hearts of the people that have come to the knowledge of One True God through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.

In John (17:3) Jesus talks about what eternal life is:

 «And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent».

Eternal life is a long journey. The climax of eternal life will be in heaven; because it is there that we will gain the full knowledge of God, the full knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dear friends, we must focus our attention on God’s appeal that He expresses through Apostle Paul: flee sin, pursue righteousness and fight the good fight of faith so that we could lay hold on eternal life and abide in it.

Tomorrow we will discuss it in more detail.

Be blessed!

If you continuously think on how you can build God’s Kingdom, – investing your finances, time, strength and effort into it, – then your heart will also be there. • How God chastises and disciplines His children

    1. God uses His Word, the Bible to discipline us.Do you have some separate time to read and personally study God’s Word? Do you study the Word together with other believers? Do you listen regularly to the preaching of the Word? All these issues are very important, since it is the Holy Scripture that God uses to speak to us. Through the Word God corrects us and gives us important instruction concerning the way we should live. God sees and know how we live. God knows all of our hidden desires and thoughts, and He wants to correct us through His Word.
