Lay hold on eternal life!

Welcome, precious children of God, to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!I pray that God’s grace would fill your life today. I would title today’s message as “Lay hold on eternal life!” To my mind, this is a very important topic considering the events that surround us these days.
«But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses» (1Timothy, 6:11-12).
In this passage of Scripture Paul talks about that our Christian life has three aspects: According to it, we must:
  1. flee sin;
  2. pursue righteousness;
  3. fight the good fight of faith.
The combination of these three aspects eventually helps us to lay hold on eternal life. Anyone who belittles these things is at risk of losing the most precious gift that has been given to us by God, – eternal life. Fleeing, pursuing and fighting require some effort. But if a person has decided to lay hold of eternal life, then he or she will do everything in their power to reach this goal. There are some things in this life that are more important than others on the scale of values and priorities. One of the most life issues for a believer has to do with eternal life. We have been given the tremendous privilege of living with God and getting to know him through the eternity, – that is what eternal life is. We have been given the privilege of enjoying God and His presence forever. Eternal life has its beginning here, on earth – within the hearts of the people that have come to the knowledge of One True God through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.In John (17:3) Jesus talks about what eternal life is:
 «And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent».
Eternal life is a long journey. The climax of eternal life will be in heaven; because it is there that we will gain the full knowledge of God, the full knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dear friends, we must focus our attention on God’s appeal that He expresses through Apostle Paul: flee sin, pursue righteousness and fight the good fight of faith so that we could lay hold on eternal life and abide in it.Tomorrow we will discuss it in more detail.Be blessed!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Your gift will make room for you! III

    We have been talking about how all big things start small, whether it is a known person, great ministry, great accomplishments or great influence. It all starts when a person does what he can do and does it with all his might as unto the Lord with faith and consistency. When one has such attitude towards life he will have his or her reward from the Lord. Such a person will be blessed and exalted by God. His or her gift will make room for him or her in God’s overall picture and the Body of Christ.Person’s gift will make room for him and will bring him before great men, – this is on of the Bible principles; the Bible teaches about it and also it can be seen in the lives of the people in the Bible.
  • The evangelism and discipleship

    “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers; Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”(Mt.4:18-19)I would like you to pay attention to the word “SAW”, which has been mentioned here twice. Passing by, Jesus saw Matthew and two brothers – Peter and Andrew. Jesus had noticed them, somehow they attracted His attention, Jesus invited them to become a part of His team.
  • Lust brings sin, and sin brings death II

    Lust is a strong desire or passion to something forbidden or unlawful. For example, the Bible says coveting your neighbour’s wife or his property is unlawful.«“You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbour’s.”» (Exodus 20:17).
  • The principle of a right confession

    God helped Abraham to believe Him, Who calls those things which do not exist as though they did. This is the principle of right confession. God calls those things that do not exist as though they did. When God gave Abram a new name – Abraham, he did not have any descendants. Neverthelss, because of this new name Abraham began calling himself “a father of many nations”. And when he called himself by name or he was called by others – every time what God had purposed was confessed – particularly that Abraham is going to be a father of many nations. We see that Abraham „contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations…”
  • How to set grace free in our lives? II

    The law of sowing and reaping governs how favour works. It is necessary to look at favour as a seed that must be sown. Jesus said that, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Matthew 5:7).In other words, Jesus is saying, “Blessed are those who have sown favour or mercy, because they will reap favour or mercy”.Generally, the level of favour operating in your life depends on the level of the seed of favour you sow into other people’s lives. This means that I cannot expect the harvest of favour in my life until I have not sown mercy into other people’s lives.
