Changes through Ministry III

Welcome, dear friends! Thanks God for this wonderful day that He has given us and for yet another opportunity to get filled with His living word!We are continuing our discussion on the importance of ministry and how God effects changes in our lives through the ministry.Ministry helps us to live for others not just for ourselves. When a person has a servant or serving heart, his life is focused on making other people happy instead of waiting on the other people to make him happy. Somebody with such an attitude and life position has no time for depression or for self-pity. His life is rather focused on searching for and helping other people who lives in poorer conditions himself instead of sitting around celebrating self- pity party. The person who understands the purpose of true ministry doesn’t live for himself, but his goal is to love God and to love other people.Your usefulness in this life hangs upon two things that I call “Two supreme commandments”. You probably have a clue of what I mean. Let’s turn to the gospel of Matthew:«Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments”». (Matthew 22:37-40).Here Jesus is saying that the commandment of love is the essence of the whole law and the prophets of the Old Testament. Everything God was trying to convey to us through Moses and all of the prophets of the Old Testament can basically be expressed in two simple statements:
  • Love the Lord, God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your mind.
  • Love your neighbour as yourself
That is why in the New Testament Jesus gave a new commandment to His disciples, – the commandment of love.
«A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another».(John 13:34).

«And whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded». (1st John 3:22-23).

«By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous». (1st John 5:2-3).
All the above verses testify about only one thing – without walking in love we won’t have God’s life inside of us and we won’t enter His fullness. If we love God, we shall obey His commandments. But which of the commandments are we actually to obey? There are more than 500 laws in the Old Testament, including the 10 commandments. You can find a law in almost every verse of the Old Testament. Judaism contains some 613 laws (mitzvot) – 365 commandments say “do not do” (according to the number of days in a year) and 248 commandments that say “do” (according to the number of human body parts). You can read more about that on the web:http://toldot.ru/tora/articles/mitzvot/ (RUS) or http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm (ENG).Which one out of the 613 laws should we obey every day, so that we prove our love for God?Jesus has simplified all of the laws and condensed them together into one simple commandment – the commandment of love.Love God and love your neighbour!May God help us to live according to these two supreme commandments!God bless you abundantly! Rufus AJiboye, pastor

  • We are the new creation in Christ Jesus, made for good deeds the Lord has determined for us II

«For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.»(Ephesians 2:8-10).Here we can see that person is not made righteous by his deeds. God never declares somebody righteous by his many good works. Vice verse, God makes righteous those who accept His gift by faith, namely Christ Jesus. A person becomes good in God´s eyes by faith when he believes in good works God has done in Christ.
  • The law of multiplication

If we have seed and sow it in good ground, then we will definitely see a harvest. Seed will grow. Sown seed first gives blade, then head and then grain in the head. Multiplication and growth always imply process. It is unavoidable if we want to receive harvest. We just have to do our part. First, that we have to understand in order to receive harvest is that we need some seed. The truth is that we already have seed. If you want to see multiplication in some area of your life you should know that you already have seed from God.
  • We have to strengthen our spirit

The Bible states «A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?» (Proverbs 18:14). Satan wants to hit our spirit via hardships, trials and problems. When your spirit is strengthened, you can overcome any kind of weakness, get through all kind of hardships and trials. So how can we strengthen our spirit? God´s word and His promises strengthen our spirit and overcome weakness and sufferings. In order to not give up, we need to learn how to lean on the word of God and His promises – fully and unconditionally. We have to learn God´s faithfulness and realise that God will never forsake us unless we abandon Him ourselves.
  • Any change in our life is done by the Holy Spirit, who transforms us and moves us from glory to glory

Are you able to accomplish something only the Holy Spirit can do? Surely not! However, by constantly watching the glory of the Lord with open face the Holy Spirit can transform us into the same image, from glory to glory.I noticed there is a problem with persistence in our fellowship with God not with coming before Him. You probably experience the time when inspiration visits you and you are willing to get closer to God and have fellowship with Him. While those moments come rather rarely or very rarely they do not change anything in essence. We all need persistence! During fellowship with God Holy Spirit will work at your heart, at your character, at your relationships, at your way of thinking that, in turn, will transform you.
  • The importance of stopping all activities and being alone with God

«From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.»Jesus came to Tyra and Sidon to find some solitude and rest from people because His last day was coming closer – the day of His death on the Golgotha. Possibly, Jesus wanted to be alone with His Father to discuss what was awaiting Him on the Golgotha. Thus, Jesus was showing us an example of stopping all activities and being alone with God. We also need – every once in a while – to leave all the clutter of this world and all its cares and to find time for being alone with the Father. God is calling you today to find right time and a right place to be alone with God even among all the cares and stresses of this world. By doing it you will be able to gain access to godly wisdom, receive peace from God and succeed in this life.
  • Why we need the favour? II

«And the Lord had given the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested» (Exodus, 12: 36)When God gave favour to the children to Israel, in one day they took away from the Egyptians an enormous amount of silver and gold. For 400 years the Israelites had worked in Egypt as slaves; they were mocked and oppressed. However, in one moment the favour of God restored to them everything the Egyptians were holding back from them. In a blink of an eye they were made rich.
