Searching for the meaning of life

Good day to you, my dear friends! Many people wanted to see this time, but they didn’t have such an opportunity. We need to trust God so that we can go through this year with dignity and not waste the privilege given to us.I would like to address the topic of searching for the meaning of life. Many people ask themselves a question of why they feel inner emptiness. So many continue to walk the wrong way in their lives, and it goes on day after day. They feel their life to be aimless and they continue their walk unmotivated. Multitudes of people do not have a clue of why they live and whether the life is worth living. All of these things happen because they do not have a clear purpose for living. The lack of such a purpose often causes violence, different types of evil, disappointments, emptiness, despair, hopelessness, apathy, anger and so on. If a person does not have a clear purpose for his or her life, all these things can happen to him. But, praise God, the Bible has a lot to say about this crucial topic. So let’s turn to the Holy Scripture, particularly to the Book of Ecclesiastes. In this book the author tells us about his own search for the meaning and purpose for his life. He reveals the wrong ways that lead to disappointment and the true ways that lead to a wholesome life. I believe that every one of us is able to learn from the author’s mistakes and discover the true purpose of our lives. Before we begin to discuss the Book of Ecclesiastes and its lessons, I would like to look at one particular verse – Ecclesiastes (1:1) – and we will see who the author of this book was.
«The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king of Jerusalem».
The author of this book was Solomon, the son of David.
«I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem». (Ecclesiastes, 1:12).
Solomon was famous for being the riches and wisest person of his time.
« I communed with my heart, saying, „Look, I have attained greatness, and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge » (Ecclesiastes, 1:16).
Solomon was a wise and rich person, and the beginning of his life was wonderful: he knew the one true God and walked with Him. But later Solomon got caught up with outward splendour of this life. Praise God that in the end of his life Solomon once again discovered the true purpose for his life. His search is described in the Book of Ecclesiastes. So it is very important for us to pay attention to the things Solomon is teaching in this book. Satisfaction in this life has nothing to do with pursuit of external things, mirages and illusions.
«I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven; this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man, by which they may be exercised. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind» (Ecclesiastes, 1:12-14).
According to these verses, everything under the sun seems to be vanity and futile to the author. Praise God, it is not the only conclusion that Solomon came to in his life. Afterwards, Solomon realized that life should not be viewed from the human perspective only – from under heaven; it must be viewed from God’s perspective as well – from above heaven. Solomon understood that there is nothing remarkable in living this life without God and rely only on the earthly things that happen under heaven. Only with God we can acquire the true purpose for this life. Tomorrow we will discuss this in detail. We will also talk about what we should not do in our life. Be blessed! Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Ignorance is a matter of personal choice

If a person does not fulfil this duty, he won’t have enough light to see evil and hide from it. Besides, this verse tells us that such a person (he or she is called „simple”) goes ahead and is punished – not by God, but by his own ignorance. Ignorance separates a person from the life of God, because he knows nothing about God’s provision. «..having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart» (Ephesians, 4:18).Because of ignorance human mind is darkened, heart is hardened and he himself is alienated from the life of God.
  • Prayer must be my first priority

Today I would like to talk more about the third point. I finished saying that prayer is more about what God wants to tell you and what He wants to do in your life and not what you want to tell Him. So you do not need to tell God what is on your heart; allow God to work through His Word giving Him opportunity to work in your heart and reveal to you His plans. If you want to hear God, you cannot be in a hurry. Effective prayer has nothing to do with haste.
  • God’s purpose for the earth and the role of people in it III

Today many people mostly emphasize different manifestations, anointing, gifts, talents and personal development. All of these things are important. But if we neglect the development of God’s character in us and do not make it a priority, if we forget to draw near to God and fellowship with Him, then we are doing not the will of God, but instead carrying out our own will. And as a result we are not able to bring glory to God.
  • It is the content of your heart that determines where your life is heading!

God wants His people to know His Word – the truth which sets us free from lies and sin. The Bibles says that Jesus came to give us life – life in abundance. God’s life is contained in His Word. God’s wisdom and might is contained in His Word! God wants you to realise what great treasure there is for you in His Word. This treasure is not comparable with any silver or gold. God’s Word – it is a jewel beyond price, everlasting, and it brings health, answers and solutions.
  • God gives to everyone according to his or her ability

We all want more. We want our churches to have more people, but God – according to your ability – will give you what you can handle. God will be able to entrust you His blessings according to the level of your responsibility. For example, you are in a predicament and you think, „Why do I have to live through this?” But God knows that you can handle it. We often are not aware of how responsible or irresponsible we are, but God is. God knows the burden you are able to carry. You may think and say to yourself, «No, I am not able to bear this! I am not capable!» Until you actually go through it, you won’t be able to imagine what you are capable of.
  • God’s Word is spiritual food

God wants us to be strong and healthy not only physically, but also spiritually. We do not need ‘spiritual fasts’. We can have physical fasts in order to gain spiritual power. But in order to become spiritually strong, we should daily feed on the Word. If you do not do it, you get weaker as a believer; you get weaker in your judgments and in your faith. When we get weaker we must ‘eat’ spiritually; that is what God’s Word is there for: «…as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby» (1 Peter, 2:2).
