What are the benefits of pain and suffering at the time?

May the peace and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be multiplied unto you this day!Yesterday we started talking about the potential advantages concealed in pain and sufferings. We talked about God’s desire for us to go through hardships with dignity, trusting Him in all things, rejoicing before God and being obedient to Him. Today I would like you to look at positive side of pain and suffering.Problems draw our attention faster than anything else.Problems can become a spiritual “alarm clock” from God. This is what Job (36:15) points out:
 “He delivers the poor in their affliction, and opens their ears in oppression”.
In times of prosperity and abundance we hear God as whispering, but in times of pain and suffering we hear Him loud and clear. God has an ability to revive our attention towards His Word and His voice. That is why Solomon says that in times of abundance we should enjoy life, but in times of suffering we should think about our life.
«In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: surely God has appointed the one as well as the other, so that man can find out nothing that will come after him» (Ecclesiastes, 7: 14).
Problems teach us to trust God.
“Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead” (2 Corinthians, 1:9).
You will never understand that God is everything you need, until He becomes everything you have left. The period of problems and hardships is the time when we need to seek God and get closer to Him.     «He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.» (1st John 3:8).The devil inflicts pain, steals, murder and annihilate people, but God comes in Christ and manifests His power and mercy. In Christ God heals the sick, forgives sins, restores people lives, frees from curse and obsession by demons. A little later we will discuss the details about devil as a source of distress and sufferings people may have. Today I would like you to note that sins of other people also represent a source of pain and suffering.

    A good counsellor should help a person to perceive his problem from God’s viewpoint. People must first notice the problem, and only then they will have any interest in solving it. Very often we do something wrong simply because we do not believe our actions to be erroneous. So, one of the tasks of any counsellor is to open person’s eyes so that he or she can discover what actually is going on in his or her life, how God sees the situation, realize that his or her lifestyle is causing problems. It is a very important quality that we must develop in ourselves so that we can be effective in helping others.

    Dear friends, God once again delights to tell us to serve Him with gladness. Jesus once told His disciples: «Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven» (Luke, 10:20).If your name has been written in the Book of Life, if you are a child of God, then you are also a co-heir of Christ. And it is more than enough reason to motivate any of us to rejoice and thank God for every day of our lives.

    Prayer is the living breath of heaven. As believers, we can be givers and can be involved in many important activities; nevertheless, without prayer all this ‘work’ will lack the heavenly breath of life. Take a look at artificial flowers: they are beautiful, but have no aroma. We are able to do good works without prayer; but we have to realize that our works will lack the aroma of life, the footprints of heaven. If these flowers were alive, then they would smell.
