God reveals His secrets to those who „stand their watch”

Dear children of God,  you are welcome to  our „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! Our God is alive, and He desires that His children will come alive through God’s Word and be prepared for every good work.Yesterday we talked about the fact that God reveals His covenant and His secrets to certain group of people and you can belong to  such group.Firstly, God reveals His secrets to the people who fear and love Him.Secondly, God reveals His secrets to those who „stand their watch”.
«I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampant, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the LORD answered me and said …» (Habakkuk, 2:1-2).
The expression «to stand one’s watch» has several meaning; it means:
  • to observe,
  • to expect,
  • to watchfully set your eyes on something,
  • to guard,
  • to be alert.
All these things describe specific actions of an individual. Habakkuk talks about himself standing on his watch, because he wanted to hear from God. How can one discover the will of God without listening to Him? Do you want to hear  from God? Then you need to  learn to stand on your watch.Standing on the watch usually takes place on an elevated place where it would be easy to see everything around – near and far.
«For thus has the Lord said to me: „Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees.” And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels, and he listening earnestly with great care. Then he cried, „A lion, my Lord! I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime; I have sat at my post every night. And look…» (Isaiah, 21:6-9).
In a spiritual sense „standing on one’s watch” means creating an atmosphere where it is easier  to hear the voice of the Lord. The classic example of this is Apostle John.
«I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last»(Revelation, 1: 9-10)

«After those things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, „Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this» (Revelation, 4:1).
Apostle John says that he was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day  and because of  that he heard the Lord’s voice. Standing on the watch means to be in such a spiritual condition that makes one able to hear the Lord’s voice in one’s spirit. When you learn to be in the spirit like John, then you will be able to hear God’s voice clearly. For example, praise and worship is one of the ways that helps us in this area.More so,  John said that the voice asked him to come up higher so that he could see the things concerning the future. We can then conclude that  until we all  rise higher above the noice and clutter of this world to stand on our watch, we won’t be able to know God’s heart and His will.To rise higher means to leave behind all the things that hinder our spiritual enlightenment. Separation from the world and solitude with God allows one to receive fresh messages from heaven and instructions from God and His Word.Moses needed to go up  to a physical mountain to receive the prototype of the Temple. You and I do not need to climb any physical mountains. You don’t have to climb a physical mountain, all you need to do is to separate yourselves unto God in the secret place of your choice where appropriate spiritual atmosphere can be created for your spirit man. Then your spirit will be able to commune with God and receive guidance  from Him. You can do that in the seclusion of  your room or house where you have a quiet place and time to talk with God without interruptions.Habakkuk stood on his watch and heard what the Lord was saying. John was in the spirit and went up higher in the spirit and he received revelations from God. If you will stand on  your watch before God today and will expect the Lord to speak to you it will surely happen.God bless you!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Faith is obedience to the Lord! II

«Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.» (Hebrew 11:6). As we mentioned earlier, faith means acting in accordance to the word of God. Quite often God calls us to do impossible things, those only God Himself can accomplish. God is not inviting us to demonstrate our own capabilities, but what He is able to do through us. That´s why God often gives us the tasks we cannot accomplish without Him.
  • Piety II

Calling upon God – means to have habitual prayer life. Prayer helps us to draw near to God and releases His provision, because He is close to all who call upon Him. We also talked about the fact that our provision depends not only on our ability to call upon God, but also on how much we fear God. To fear God means to avoid evil, to do good, to seek peace and to follow it. God’s provision and blessing is the reward of those who fear Him. We also pointed out that God has secrets that are meant for dedicated people who call upon His Name and walk in the fear of the Lord. Besides all of the above, it is important to know that dedication to God is impossible without the love for Him.
  • Wisdom of a man and wisdom of God

There are a wisdom of this world and God´s wisdom. God´s wisdom differs from the wisdom of this world the way that it´s hidden until the God Himself reveals it to the people. As for the wisdom of this world, that´s a human wisdom gained using five methods of perception, or sense: hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste, which are the natural channels used to gain a knowledge.Differently from God´s wisdom that exists for our glory, the wisdom of a man once passes away. The Bible says, that «the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men», even more His wisdom is. God´s wisdom is much higher than the wisdom of a man.
  • The importance of turning at the reproof of the Lord.

The Bible tells us that God will correct us because He loves us and is delighted in our prosperity. He will not live us to wander in our unrighteous ways. He will rebuke, chastise and discipline those He love just like any father will do to his children.“My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth” (Proverbs 3:11-12).
  • What it means to accept personal responsibility

If you can remember, yesterday we talked about the fact that what defiles a person is not what is done to him, but his personal reaction to that. In the following Scripture we saw that neither the man nor the woman were willing to take personal responsibility for their actions.„The man said, “The woman you put here with me–she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.» Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (GEN 3:12-13)
