Grateful people – they are people able for self-sacrifice! II

I am glad to greet you again in our column „Daily Word for Spiritual Strength”!We are continuing speaking about the fact that every person who loves God is a person able for self-sacrifice.Yesterday we were speaking about Abraham, who loved God not only in his words but also in his works. As a sign of his gratitude, Abraham built altars and offered sacrifices for God.Let us look at another time when Abraham built and altar for the Lord:
“The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.”(Genesis 13:14-18).
We see that building an altar was the correct response of Abraham towards God’s grace.If we learn to appreciate and cherish everything that God does in our lives, then it will be natural for us to sacrifice or build and altar for God.Know that when speaking about sacrifice, God will never ever ask you for something that you do not have! His love does not require that, God’s love is not abusive. If you truly love someone, you will never ask from them what they do not have.Forget about what you do not have, think about what you do have. Be sure that you own a lot!As a church we can be more useful and influential than we are today. We can do more, give more; we can have more. People must rise, people-worshippers who will love God and who will not hold back their abilities, wisdom, experience, time and finances in order to build the Kingdom of God. Worshippers are easy to be directed. Worship is not just singing songs. Worship costs something! And they who pay this price, are the true worshippers of God.Do not deceive yourself; if you seriously want to follow God, then build your altar and bring all of your favourite sine upon it: pride, selfishness, ambitions, lust of flesh, and lust of eyes. Bring upon it your time, your gifts, abilities, knowledge, talents, experience, etc. Thus you can become a powerful instrument in the hands of God to expand His Kingdom and spread His perfect aroma. Understand that if you are able to sacrifice to God, then reward from Him will be much larger that that what you can give to Him.Do you love the Lord more than anything in your life?     «Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that on of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples» (Luke, 11:1)The disciples understood that the presence of God in the life of Jesus was closely related to His ability to pray, and they decided to watch Him no more. They realized that they also can come into this presence; that is why they asked Jesus about it.

    As a base we will use a passage from Mark chapter 4, where Jesus Himself was speaking in parables. In this chapter there are three parables, through which Jesus explains the power and the potential hidden in a small seed. First I would like to simply recount these parables, but later we will look at each of them in more detail. The first parable that Jesus talked about is the parable of the sower. This parable shows that there is a whole list of obstacles that make it difficult for seeds to grow and bear fruit. In this parable, Jesus went ahead to show us three types of obstacles which can impede the growth of the seeds that we sow. (Mark 4:3-20)

    To do good work means doing what you can do. God never asks you to do something above your abilities. When God asks you to do something, He definitely gives you a supernatural power and capabilities. Do not think of what you cannot accomplish, better do what you can manage then God will lead you into your promised land. Wherever you are, use every opportunity to do what you can do, so you learn doing good works for Jesus then.

    If we want to have fruitful prayer life, then prayer must become a habit. In order for that to happen we must gain some skills in the area of prayer. Skill means how we do something. When you know what you need to do and why you need to do it, the next step is HOW to do it. If you don’t know how, this activity can’t become a habit. But you won’t be able to learn how, unless you actually start doing it. I won’t know how to pray, unless I start praying. I am sure we already know very much about prayer. You can put to practice this knowledge that you have. Thus you obtain skills. Skills are developed by putting knowledge to practice.

So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth» (Exodus, 33:16).God’s presence makes us stronger and more glorious. If God’s presence is so necessary, then how can we experience it in our lives?
