How to develop a habit of prayer in our life? III

Good day my dear friends! Thanks to the Lord, for giving us this wonderful day today! Thanks for another opportunity to fill our hearts with His Living Word!A desire to know God and His will in our life is what will prompt us to pray as we discovered yesterday. The same desire is like a fuel that makes our prayer life effective. We must fan and maintain this in ourselves if we want to be effective in our prayer life. Moreover, we should turn prayer into a habit. As you know, human life consists of habits. There are also good and bad habits. Any habit that brings a positive outcome requires some efforts and discipline from us. Unless we have a habit of praying our prayer life will never become effective neither fruitful. Let me quote the statement of an Ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle who once said about habits – “We are the product of what we repeatedly do”. In other words, our habits are our essence. Therefore, in order to excel at something, we have to make it our habit. Only continuous practice makes us perfect, not something we have tried only once in a time. I would not become a professional drummer by hitting a drum one time, even if the Holy Spirit comes upon me at that very same moment.Sometimes the Holy Spirit fills a musician and he performed as if it is not a human played music any more. However, can we expect that person to become a music expert or a professional musician just because of his one time outstanding performance when the Holy Spirit was upon him? Mastering an art is achieved by habits not by a single act.Do you want to excel and become successful in prayer? Then your prayer should not be a one time event that takes place only when prompted by the Holy Spirit, when you can say: “Today, the Holy Spirit urged me to pray, I have prayed so hard that I don´t see a need to pray any more in the next two years!” Such attitude to prayer is wrong. Our whole life is made of many habits. At the time being, you might have some habits that are preventing you from becoming the person you will like to become. Habit is like a force. The gravitation force is a good example; it can be both creative and destructive. If we understand the way this force works and apply it in the right direction, the law of gravity helps us to reach our goal. Why is it that an aircraft does not usually fall down? Does it mean the law of gravitation do not apply to aircraft? Of course, that is not the truth. The people who invented aircraft and constructors have studied the law of gravity; they have studied its principle of operation and have complied with those principles as they design an air bus that will help people to move to their necessary destination. But whenever there is a deviation from this law, it always leads to a fatal calamity. Why am talking about this? It is because there are some habits that destroy our life or prevent us from going ahead. It´s time to think about developing habits that ensure and stimulate your advancement and growth instead of destroying your life. Prayer is one of such habits. Prayer should become a habit!King David was an ordinary man just like you and me, besides he was a busy person. He had got many children. Meanwhile, he managed to find the time for prayer daily, because he loved God. He was certain he would not be able to manage all his tasks without God´s help. He clearly understood he needed God´s wisdom and His leadership every day.Praying three times a day – in the morning, at noon and in the evening was one of David´s good habits.
«Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice» (Psalm 55: 17).
Prayer doesn´t relieve you from your job, responsibilities and duties, but it helps you to become more effective while you are performing them.Do you need the wisdom of God In your life on a daily basis; do you need His power, His strength and guidance in your life everyday? Then let prayer become a habit in your life.See you tomorrow! Many blessings to you from our Lord!Rufus Ajiboye, pastor

  • How do we know if we have the fear of God in our lives?

The first way to know this is to understand that the fear of God expresses itself in a hatred of evil.“To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech” (Prov. 8:13) (see also Prov. 3:7; 14:16; 16:6; 23:17; Job. 1:1,8; ; II Cor. 7:1). This is just the opposite of the wicked (Eccl. 8:13—”Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow”). (see also Prov. 1:29; Ps. 36:1-4. ).
  • The more we collaborate with God, the more prophecies we will see fulfilled

What does it mean to be stirred? When such things happen due to the changes taking place in people and through people the latter can´t remain indifferent to God any more. Nowadays people live wrapped in their problems, immersed in their own world, as though there is no God at all. They use some duty phrases in their speech like “For God´s sake”, “Thanks God”, but there is no God in their hearts at all. It happens to them just because they have never experienced the real God in their lives. God is a care taking father. Such people have not felt how real the God is, how powerful and Almighty Creator He is.
  • Thanksgiving as the basis of worship

Worship is life that is dedicated to God and it implies close interaction with God. It says in the Bible that God is looking for worshippers: «But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth» (John, 4:23-24).
  • Why it is necessary for us to make praise as a way of life

Praise as a demonstration of our faith in God. In Roman 4: 20 we are told that Abraham He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. One of the ways we can both demonstrate and build a strong faith in our lives is to learn to give glory. One way we can give glory to God is to believe Him, praise Him and holding unto His word despite the negative circumstances of life. Only those who believe God is in control of their lives and their situations can live such a life. But the truth is that we cannot enjoy the life of God until we learn to give glory to Him by demonstrating our faith in Him through praise on a daily basis.
  • Confess your sins and repent of them as soon as the Holy Spirit convicts you

«For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light» (Mark, 4:22).Here we see a very important truth spoken by Jesus. According to this Scripture everything hidden will be revealed. If we accept this truth then we will want to live righteously before God and men. Our every wrongdoing and ungodly deed sooner or later will be brought out in the light, and all our secret works sooner or later will come into the open; all our unconfessed, unrecognized and secret sins sooner or later will become obvious for everybody.
  • Value God’s Word! II

«Therefore whoever hears these saying of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these saying of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house; and it fell. And great was its fall» (Mathew, 7:24-27)
