As believers in Christ we should learn to look at ourselves the way God looks at us!

Dear friends, I am glad to greet you in our column «Daily word for spiritual strength»! We continue talking about helmet of hope of salvation and the way we can use it at the last days. Knowing about hardships of the last days (2 Timothy 3:1) and the darkness covering the Earth (Isaiah 60:1-2) God prepared His splendid, invincible weapons for us, so we can celebrate victory. Faith, hope and love are the tools to ensure victory at the battle of the last days.Yesterday we discussed what being pilgrims and aliens in this world means. Lack of understanding of such important thing prevents us from walking in hope of salvation, while making us an easy target for the world. Apostle Peter provides the details why it´s so important to treat ourselves as pilgrims and aliens in this world.
«Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having good behaviour among the nations, so in that which they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they see, glorify God in the day of visitation.» (1 Peter 2:11-12).
Peter is pleading with us «to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul».As Christians we have to acknowledge our responsibility to preserve ourselves “undefiled by this world” (James 1:27).We have to focus our thoughts and desires on God and His commandments “throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor 10:5).We have to “put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)We must not desire to stay in this world of sin neither to enjoy “pleasures of sin for a time” (Hebrew 11:24-26).Brethren, if we refuse to admit ourselves as pilgrims and aliens in this world, we will definitely seek comfortable life in this world instead. We will aspire to meet desires of flesh which, in essence, are the enemies of God.
«For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.» (Romans 8:6-7).
As believers in Christ we should learn to look at ourselves the way God looks at us. The God´s word says we are pilgrims and aliens, therefore, do your best to see your selves as such. Doing so we will take after people seeking heavenly home, those who desire not to return to the place they have exited, rather longing for something better, namely, heaven. God is not ashamed of those who are filled with hope of salvation. He is gladly calls Himself their God, for He has prepared a city for them – a shelter to stay in safety during the storm, flood or hunger. God has prepared comfort everlasting and obvious victory for their souls. Just like the following passage tells us:
«These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking after a country of their own. If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return. But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.» (Hebrew 11:13-16).
I like the expression: «A tramp is a person without home; a criminal is one who stays away from home; a pilgrim is far away from his home, while an alien is just going home.”We are neither tramps nor criminals, but pilgrims still away from home while determinately heading home.Be abundantly blessed in the Lord!Rufus Adjiboye, pastor

Today I’d like us to discuss about the life of Abraham. I believe God wants to show us some very important principles that can be gleaned from the life of Abraham and in his relationship with God. “Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis, 12:1-3)
  • How can we earn promotion?

Every one of us desires to see God in our lives – strong and mighty God. It is important for us how God sees us and what He sees in us and in our hearts. I was born to meet needs of other people.God is always good! He does not change. Your problems or illnesses cannot alter the mercy of God towards you. God is always good, and that is God that we serve. Do not let devil deceive you. Know that God is always good! He wants to promote us, but He is looking for a particular individual. He is searching for a person who deserves to be promoted.
  • Purpose for living II

Let’s look at the steps that Solomon took in order to find the meaning of life. We will see what conclusions Solomon came to. The first thing Solomon turned to was acquiring of wisdom and knowledge. «I communed with my heart, saying, „Look, I have attained greatness, and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge.” And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is grasping for the wind. For in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow» (Ecclesiastes, 1:16-18).
  • Habit is a compilation of knowledge, skills and willingness III

If we want to have fruitful prayer life, then prayer must become a habit. In order for that to happen we must gain some skills in the area of prayer. Skill means how we do something. When you know what you need to do and why you need to do it, the next step is HOW to do it. If you don’t know how, this activity can’t become a habit. But you won’t be able to learn how, unless you actually start doing it. I won’t know how to pray, unless I start praying. I am sure we already know very much about prayer. You can put to practice this knowledge that you have. Thus you obtain skills. Skills are developed by putting knowledge to practice.
  • God has appointed every one of us for the ministry, so that all of us would grow into Him!

Jesus must be the centre of everything. Every member does its share and then the Body grows in the love of God and every one enjoys and benefits from it. We will all enjoy the Church, if every one of us does his or her part to the best of our abilities. I need to do only what I am able to do and not worry about what I do not have and what I cannot do, – otherwise i will be crush under such burden. I must only concentrate my attention on how to multiply my talents.
  • Worship the Lord

God wants us to talk to Him the way we talk to our father. Jesus said in His prayer: “… blessed be Thy Name!” The word “bless” means He worshipped the God Father in reverence to Him. Worship prepares our soul to meet the God. It also involves our spirit. Just like in order to listen to a broadcast on the radio you need to tune it up first, worship helps us to turn our spirit on and tune it up on the God´s wave. Jesus taught:«You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve»
