We change and become the partakers of God’s nature through the knowledge of God and His promises

Greetings, dear friends! Grace and peace to you from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! We have been talking about the necessity to renew our minds and to allow God’s truth to change our thinking patterns. We also established that any changes require me to learn to identify with the new nature I received through the new birth. We change and become the partakers of God’s nature through the knowledge of God and His promises.
«..as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust» (2 Peter, 1:3-4).
Through this knowledge we escape the corruption that is in the world and become more and more like Jesus Christ. We read about it in the Epistle to Ephesians:
«..that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness» (Ephesians, 4:22-24).
The more we learn about our new nature and the promises of life in Christ, the more we distance ourselves from the lusts that rule in this world. Devil is able to deceive the old man with his lustful suggestions only if we do not have the revelation of our new nature and life in Christ or if we do not want to identify with the new nature. But in order to have this knowledge or revelation we need to make an effort:
«But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ» (2 Peter, 1:5-8).
We already pointed out that any changes require of us to deny ourselves.
«When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, „Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me»(Mark, 8:34).
To deny oneself means to deny the self-centred ego and self-will. It means to take off the „I” which sits on the throne of our hearts. When we deny ourselves it means we put aside the “I” in order to allow God to take the throne of our hearts and to take charge of our lives. It means to forget the phrases like: „I want to…”, «This is what I desire…”, «It won’t happen because I said so!”, «I don’t want to…”, «I cannot…”, – because you ask the Lord what He wants and He tells you. To deny oneself means to put aside all desires and objections and to obey the word of the Lord Who has taken the place in the centre of your heart. In order to experience real and radical changes in our lives we must choose the will of God for us again and again. We grow into the likeness of Jesus when we live according to this principle: «Not my will, but Yours be done!» Our humility before God is demonstrated when we submit our desires to God’s will, and you know that God gives grace to the humble.Grace is God’s power that brings changes into our lives and our circumstances. We are not able to change ourselves, but God is able to change us by His grace. In order for it to happen we need to allow this grace to enter our lives. God’s grace not only saves us, but also teaches us and makes us zealous for good works.
«For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works» (Titus, 2:11-14).
We will continue about it tomorrow!I wish you God’s abundant blessings!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Do not live without vision!

Today I would like to share with you a word about building or constructing your future. The truth is that we are a product of what we see. In order for us to reach any goals in life, we have to first see (visualize or imagine) them. So many people do not advance and move forward because of the lack of vision; they only live in the ‘now’. Very often people do not have any future plans; they do not have a clue of what goals they want to reach in this life.
  • Why it is necessary for us to make praise as a way of life

Praise as a demonstration of our faith in God. In Roman 4: 20 we are told that Abraham He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. One of the ways we can both demonstrate and build a strong faith in our lives is to learn to give glory. One way we can give glory to God is to believe Him, praise Him and holding unto His word despite the negative circumstances of life. Only those who believe God is in control of their lives and their situations can live such a life. But the truth is that we cannot enjoy the life of God until we learn to give glory to Him by demonstrating our faith in Him through praise on a daily basis.
  • Your gift will make room for you!

«A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men» (Proverbs, 18: 16).Your gift will make room for you and will broaden your boarders, if you won’t hide it. So many times believers ask: «Where is my place in the Body of Christ? What is my calling?»Do what you know. This simple principle gives an answer to many questions. Find the thing that you know how to do; find what you can do to promote the Kingdom of God, to help the church to grow and to extend your influence in the society.
  • Your gift will make room for you! IV

In the Gospel of Mathew Jesus told a parable about Master giving his servants different talents. «For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey» (Mathew, 25: 14-15).Jesus shows us here that the criterion of His assessment is not quantity, but faithfulness. God know that every one of us has different abilities, so the quantitative result will be different for different people. Numbers are not important to Jesus; He cares about how faithful you have been with what God has given you. He cares about your attitude towards His work.
  • Precondition for effective prayer is prayer in practice

Prayer must be practiced daily. We will not be able to become masters and professionals in what we do not practice every day. If we do not practice prayer, we will not know how to pray properly. Again I would like to emphasize one truth we spoke of last time. In the life for each of us, once the time comes when most of all we need prayer. But if we do not practice prayer daily, we will not be able to ask and receive the necessary assistance from God at that particular time. May this not happen with us.Prayer changes us and the things that are around us, it changes our world. Everyone can find that a prayer is power, it is a privilege for a believer from God Himself.
  • Changes mean working hard persistently II

While growing up and changing we will see how we become more patient. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit God wants to be visible in your life. Therefore, God sometimes permits conflicts in your life, to help you with developing the fruit of patience. God desires to trample our pride thus transforming us into likeness of loving, persevere Christ. You are still arrogant if you show resentment at nonsense. God desires to help you to get rid of this arrogance. That´s why He allows people to do wrong to us. God is trying to teach us how to handle such situations, so that we are able to build relationships with people as His representatives on this Earth. Everything God permits in our life works together for good if we let Him mould us.
