Praying is pouring out your heart before God

Welcome to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”, dear children of God! I believe that the teaching about prayer will change lives of many people. The truth of this word has affected and changed my life. When God revealed to me the essence of prayer and the importance of spending time with God, it fundamentally changed my whole Christian walk. Today I am more in love with God, I treasure the time I spend with Him.Yesterday we discussed prayer as a „two-way” street – a conversation with God. I must learn not just express my thoughts and needs to God, but also allow Him to speak to me during prayer and do the work in me. There are several more characteristics that describe effective praying.
  1. Praying is pouring out your heart before God.
When I pray I pour out my soul before God. I will not dwell on it for long, because we mostly know how to do it. We know how to open our hearts. As soon as we find a listening ear and as soon as we find a person we can trust, we open our hearts. We know that God is always ready to hear us out. Besides, God is totally trustworthy. It means that you can boldly come before God with everything that concerns us. That is what we call prayer. And that is why Paul says that we shouldn’t think and worry too much, but always reveal our desires before God in prayer and then His peace will fill our hearts. The pouring out of your hearts does not has to happen only when you have a need. Singing of psalms and praises also is a part of prayer. When you want to thank God for His mercy and the solutions for your problems, it also is a part of prayer. It says in James (5:13-16):
«Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much».
This is a rather short passage that contains so much revelation of prayer. Prayer is our life. Without praying we cannot be spiritually alive.
  1. Praying is the proof of your need for God.
Is any of you saying that you need God? You can prove it only through your prayer life. A person that enjoys close relationships with God does not worry, even at times of serious problems. Why? Because he knows that there is God Who can help him with any possible problem.Sometimes prayer is born out of a need. And when you turn to God in prayer, you demonstrate that you need Him, because you are not able to manage your life and deal with the situation. So you bow your knees before God, you humble yourself before Him and acknowledge His greatness and authority. You acknowledge that He is Almighty and can do what nobody else can. You admit that God is able to give you what no other person is able to give. And you humble yourself before God; you give Him your needs, thus proving that You love Him and trust Him alone.
“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah, 40:29-31).

Isaiah saw three important things that totally changed his life. Isaiah saw God. He saw God’s greatness and holiness. When you draw near to God, God reveals Himself to you more and more. When we see God we also see ourselves, because we are created in His image and according to His likeness. In His light we see light.Isaiah saw himself. God desires for us to see ourselves clearly. For this very reason He allows different things to happen to us so that our eyes would be open about what we are like inside.

«You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, … » (Matthew 5:43-44).«But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you..» (Luke 6:27-28).
  • What are the benefits of pain and suffering at the time? II

Problems try and purify our faith.Quite often the Bible compares sufferings with the furnace used for the purification of metal that burns up all the dross. “In this your greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter, 1:6-7).
  • How can our relationships with other people help us change?

All people need change; we help each other through relationships that we are involved. God alone does not need to change; all the people, on the other side, desperately need to change. We need each other and we help each other to change. If we do not understand it and lose sight of it, then it will be hard for us to build any relationships.
  • You have been created, redeemed and restored! You were born twice!

We are not only created by God, we are also reworked or recreated by Jesus Christ. We are talking about the opportunity available to sinful people because Christ has come into this world. This is exactly what the letter to Ephesians says:«You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience; among whom we also all once lived in the lust of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.» (Ephesians 2:1-10).
  • The importance of walking in the fear of God

The Bible teaches that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God.Until the fear of God is in place, there can’t be any Access to the Spirit of wisdom and revelation from God. The God type of wisdom that makes your face to shine in the dark seasons of life and make your star brighter despite the unfavorable circumstances of life, results from the fear of God.
