We are the salt of the earth and light of the world

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ! Welcome to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!We continue talking about our role and function as God’s ambassadors on the earth. We’ve talked about the Bible calling us Christ’s ambassadors; God has sent us to encourage people to be reconciled with God. The Bible also calls us the salt of the earth and the light to the world. But if we as Christ’s ambassadors on earth do not actively practise our faith, then our society will deteriorate. Today, if we look at successful and prosperous countries, we can see the reason of their success and prosperity is because the people there embrace and practice Christian values. Only righteousness exalts a nation – Thai is a law, – God’s law. Only righteousness makes a nation prosperous! Injustice and sin destroy a nation.The bible says: 
 «Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavour, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another» (Mark, 9:50).
 As we see in this verse, salt is a good thing, and Christina faith is profitable and necessary for every society. The society that has Christians living in it is a place blessed by God. But the society will only be blessed when the believers will confidently function as Christ’s messengers, as the salt of the earth and the light to the world. As believers we must be blessing to the people around us. We must fill the air around us with the light of the truth. We must reveal to the world our Lord Jesus Christ as being the Author of life. The nature of God that we bear in ourselves is what makes us the salt in our society. But if we do not accept God’s nature and lead a selfish lifestyle, if we do not reflect God’s light and live like the world, then we become useless and lose our ability to change society. The Gospel of Mathew recites particular character traits that we need to develop in ourselves in order to truly become the salt that does not lose its strength and to be a blessing for the earth. When believers will begin to ‘salt’ the society with God’s truth and the values of God’s Kingdom, then God will change our society – through His children. We will talk more on this tomorrow. Please understand that your love for God will have a reflection your relationship with others. In the same way, your neglect of God reflects on how you relate to your neighbour.

    Prayer is meaningful time with God.I will explain what I mean by that. Quite often I use the word ‘time’. Prayer is one of the means of organizing and managing the time we have been given. What is the topic of our prayers is a very interesting question. We all talk about it. There are so many books written on prayer. But who is the person who prays truly effectively? This is a very serious question. God desires us to arrange our lives for effective prayer; it will take our ministry and our whole life to a much higher level.

    We can not do the works of God without God. Very often in our own strength, we try to do what God requires us to do with Him. Often we rely on ourselves and on things we already know. Often we rely on our experience. But when the prayer is our priority we understand that when relying on ourselves and doing the job without prayer, we are wasting time and energy. Without a strong prayer movement in the church, the church vision cannot be accomplished. It´s just not possible!

    In the Gospel of Mathew Jesus told a parable about Master giving his servants different talents. «For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey» (Mathew, 25: 14-15).Jesus shows us here that the criterion of His assessment is not quantity, but faithfulness. God know that every one of us has different abilities, so the quantitative result will be different for different people. Numbers are not important to Jesus; He cares about how faithful you have been with what God has given you. He cares about your attitude towards His work.

  • I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me!

    According to the word of God we are already granted everything we need in order to succeed in this life. God has already given us all that we need to have life abundantly. There is no such need in our life God has not taken care for yet. We only have to get to know God and His precious promises, so that we can prevail the lust of this world and fulfil our call from God.«Seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue; by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.». (2 Peter 1:3-4).
