Why do people choose to be irresponsible? II
I am glad to welcome every reader of „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!Yesterday we started talking about why people choose to be irresponsible. Based on the parable of talents, we established that fear is one of the main reasons why people choose irresponsible lifestyle. Fear paralyzes and limits a person, robs him of his strength and courage to move forward. Fear takes away person’s confidence in God. Besides, fear binds up person’s gifts and makes him or her unfruitful.According to Mathew (25:14-19, 24-26), the second reason for being irresponsible is a wicked heart.
«But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed» (Mathew, 25:26).
Being responsible is connected to the condition of person’s heart. If the heart is wicked and the mind is not renewed, then it would be futile to expect responsible behaviour. The servant who buried his talent did not think highly of his lord. He considered his lord to be a cruel man who reaps where he has not sown and gathers where he has not scattered seed. Because of these ponderings in his heart he did not have the motivation to do his bestWhen the motives are not pure and he mind is full of selfish thoughts, a person is not able to take responsibility. Such a person feels sorry for himself; he is the centre of life and his ways are wicked and crooked. It would be dangerous to entrust an important task to such a person, because his heart will allow him to blame everyone, except him. A person with a wicked heart makes every possible excuse.A sound mind and pure motives are the necessary qualities for a responsible person.Allow the Word of God cleanse your heart, and ask the Holy Spirit to purify your motives so that you can become a more responsible person. Let your heart be filled with deep faith that is based on the Word of God, pure motives and love towards God and people.«Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life» (Proverbs, 4:23).
