Habit is a compilation of knowledge, skills and willingness

Thanks Lord for you all. I believe this day will bring many blessings to you while thinking about the Word received from the Lord today.Today we continue to study praying. As we mentioned yesterday, Jews were to pray three times a day. But at the days Jesus was living on the Earth prayer had become like a tradition, a lifeless routine. Pharisees had a rule of fasting two times a day and a rule of praying three times a day, but those rules were not written in their hearts nor they did it with love to God. They were not willing to know God´s will. Jesus disagreed with such religious approach. Meanwhile, Jesus didn´t discard the rule itself. We can read about this rule in Acts 3:1:
« Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.».
Disciples still followed the same rules of Jewish culture even after resurrection of Christ – they prayed at a certain hour of a day. They did it because praying had become a habit of the first Christian church. Reading Acts we notice many references to praying at a certain time of a day, for example Acts 10:9 says:
« Now on the next day as they were on their journey, and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.».
The time of prayer was near. Peter climbed the top of the house to pray and God gave him a vision. Bible doesn´t set exactly for how long time we should pray every day. Therefore, we can´t say we have to pray three, five or seven times a day. But this is not the case. I am rather talking about a habit of praying. God´s Word doesn´t order us to pray three times a day like David did, but it prompts us to pray at any time. In Luke 18:1 we read:
«… they must always pray, and not give up, ».
Acts 2:42 say:
« They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer ».
Disciples lived in prayer.
 «Pray without ceasing.». (1-Thes. 5:17 ).
So we have to make praying as a habit. To do this we need to know what a habit consists of. “7 Habits Of Highly Effective People”, the famous book written by Stephen Covey is one of the best-sellers. Principles described in this book are widely use by many people all across the world. According to Stephen, habit is a compilation of knowledge, skills and willingness. Sounds very interesting, right? I would like to use this definition today to help us to figure out what we are talking about. Once you´ve got all three of them you are good to make a habit. Let´s have a closer look at knowledge. Knowledge is an understanding of theory of what we have to do and why. In order to make something as your habit you need to understand the theoretical aspects of such necessity. How is it connected to our praying life? Let me explain that. We acquire knowledge by reading the Bible, Word of God. We know why we have to pray, then we can make a habit of praying, just because we know what we have to do. We should pray without ceasing – I know this and so I do why. Let me elaborate on it. Awareness of what I gain or lose by having a particular habit helps us to develop that habit. You say you are willing to make praying as your habit, make the following 2 lists then:
  1. what you lose by not practising prayer daily or praying occasionally
  2. what you gain when you praying regularly
Try to imagine those things in your mind. They will inspire you. You have to be inspired. If you want to grow up making your life in prayer effective, you have to broaden your knowledge base about prayer. We will continue tomorrow!Peace of God be with you!Rufus Adjiboye, pastor

  • Precondition for effective prayer is prayer in practice

Prayer must be practiced daily. We will not be able to become masters and professionals in what we do not practice every day. If we do not practice prayer, we will not know how to pray properly. Again I would like to emphasize one truth we spoke of last time. In the life for each of us, once the time comes when most of all we need prayer. But if we do not practice prayer daily, we will not be able to ask and receive the necessary assistance from God at that particular time. May this not happen with us.Prayer changes us and the things that are around us, it changes our world. Everyone can find that a prayer is power, it is a privilege for a believer from God Himself.
  • God’s Word being the best means of cleansing for a human heart

God cleanses me through His Word, so I have to be absorbed in it daily. It might seem to you that you are not getting anything out of it, but it is not so. When we read the Word, we receive deep cleansing, just like people get clean when they bathe. It must be done as often as possible so we would stink spiritually. If you start to notice that you are getting quick-tempered, it means you need to wash it off. If you notice your heart closing up, it means you are not reading the Word and missing the cleansing. If you notice things that do not comply with Christian standards, for example, picking a quarrel, it is a sign of not being in the Word enough.
  • The example of accountability in the life of apostle Paul II

Leaving for his mission Paul didn´t make himself unaccountable just because he had already been anointed and free. At that moment Paul had become a mature minister established many churches. Nevertheless, he was still an accountable person. He returned to the church at Antioch, to the place he had been sent from, to meet those whom God had been made an authority over Paul. Moreover, Paul also held an account before the apostles in Jerusalem regarding the way his ministry was going.«Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain». (Galatians 2:1-2).
  • Worthy Goal for Life

Peace to you, my dear friends! I greet you on this wonderful day and pray for the Lord to help you in your walk and give you success in everything you will do today. Today I would like to start talking about „Worthy Goal for Life”.Every person has a goal, whether he talks about it or not. He is driven to do something. But if we talk about goals, it is important to determinewhether it is WORTHY or UNWORTHY.
  • Without certain changes in our lives we won’t be able to receive God’s vision

The first thing God did to Abram was that He took him out of the tent, out of his comfort zone. While we stay within our comfort zone where we feel at ease, where we do not need to make an effort, where everything goes according to the habitual scenario, we are not able to see what God wants to show us. For this reason God often desires us to get out of our comfort zone, out of our routine lifestyle and for us to put forth some effort to expand our knowledge of the will of God for our life.
  • Faith is obedience to the Lord!

ew days we have been discussing the ways of how to experience God´s power and mercy in your life.
