Why do people run away from being accountable?

Greetings to you, dear friends! Grace and peace to you from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! We have been talking about accountability as the thing that helps us to become more responsible, stable and reliable people; it helps us to become the people that God and people can rely on. But why do people run away from being accountable? There are several reasons why people avoid accountability. Today let’s talk about some of them.
  1. Fear of rejection. Many people are afraid of others rejecting or despising them when they find out all the truth. Biblical accountability is fulfilment of the law of Christ which tells us to express our care for the others in the spirit of humility:

«Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ» (Galatians, 6:1-2).

  1. Many people fear that others may try to control them through accountability. I must note that in reality there is such a thing as negative control. It limits a person and his potential. But besides the negative control, there is also a positive control that motivates to good words and effective life. In fact, accountability represents such a control that helps a person persevere till the end, overcome his laziness and other faults and focus on his life mission.

  1. Lack of trust towards people. Many people are not able to share their pain or inner struggles with others because they want to keep private things private. But I must note that accountability does not imply you sharing your heart with anybody and everybody. There should be some people in your life that you are totally open to because you know that they are spiritually mature, totally trustworthy and they love you. Today I urge you to pray and ask God to show you that person or those people that you can totally trust and be accountable to. If Jesus had twelve partners He had the relationships of accountability with, then every one of us needs to have at least one or two believers we can have such relationships.

  1. Many people are afraid of negative emotions and reactions from others.
When we talk about accountability, we do not mean intimidation, intrusion into one’s private life, unbearable burdens or submitting to the whims of others. Biblical accountability is not manipulation; it is a great blessing for all parts involved if it is executed correctly. All people, Christian leaders included, need to be accountable to someone in all of the areas of their life and relationships. Accountability is not something that only new believers need. It is a powerful instrument that helps people enter the fullness of God and rise on the heights God has prepared for them.I pray for God to reveal to you the power of accountability and show you the people He has sent into your life as helpers and overseers of your soul. God desires to lift you up high! We will continue tomorrow!I wish you God’s abundant blessings!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

Lust is a strong desire or passion to something forbidden or unlawful. For example, the Bible says coveting your neighbour’s wife or his property is unlawful.«“You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbour’s.”» (Exodus 20:17).
  • Which group of people do you belong to today – the disciples or the multitude? II

The way that Jesus will lead us on won’t always be smooth and easy. The Bible tells us that Jesus Himself endured the hostility, the cross and the shame. It means that Jesus will also lead us through the valleys of death and tears; this way is not pleasant and desired, but it is good for us, because God only knows what we need. The disciples followed Jesus not only when He spoke pleasantries, but also when He rebuked or corrected them. They followed Him even when they did not understand the true meaning of His words. The simply trusted His wisdom.
  • How does a truly responsible person look like? III

«..for You (God) have magnified Your word above all Your name» (Psalm 138:2b).We are the children of God, created in the image and after the likeness of God. If our God takes responsibility for what He has said, He expects the same from us. Besides, He does not mean for us to do it on our own; He has sent to us the Helper, Teacher, Comforter and Advocate – the Holy Spirit to be with us at all times.
  • Don’t ever allow anything or anybody to stop you from serving.

Friends, no matter how badly people or life itself has treated you, if you want to move ahead in life you have to learn how to focus on the right thing and chose the right life position. If despite all the odds of life you can still focus on using your gifts and talents; if you can still continue to serve people, then you will soon be able to change your status. That was exactly what happened to Joseph. As he served these two officers of pharaoh instead of concentrating on the offences of others, the door to his throne opened to him easily. Pharaoh sent for Joseph and fetched him out of the prison.
  • The seed contains tremendous potential

Our attitude towards God’s Word is very important. God sends His Word into our lives so that His Word would bring to us that which we need. In order for the seed of God’s Word to grow in our hearts, the condition of our hearts is particularly important. «For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing which I sent it.» (Isaiah 55:10-11).
