Lay hold on eternal life!

Welcome, precious children of God, to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!I pray that God’s grace would fill your life today. I would title today’s message as “Lay hold on eternal life!” To my mind, this is a very important topic considering the events that surround us these days.
«But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses» (1Timothy, 6:11-12).
In this passage of Scripture Paul talks about that our Christian life has three aspects: According to it, we must:
  1. flee sin;
  2. pursue righteousness;
  3. fight the good fight of faith.
The combination of these three aspects eventually helps us to lay hold on eternal life. Anyone who belittles these things is at risk of losing the most precious gift that has been given to us by God, – eternal life. Fleeing, pursuing and fighting require some effort. But if a person has decided to lay hold of eternal life, then he or she will do everything in their power to reach this goal. There are some things in this life that are more important than others on the scale of values and priorities. One of the most life issues for a believer has to do with eternal life. We have been given the tremendous privilege of living with God and getting to know him through the eternity, – that is what eternal life is. We have been given the privilege of enjoying God and His presence forever. Eternal life has its beginning here, on earth – within the hearts of the people that have come to the knowledge of One True God through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.In John (17:3) Jesus talks about what eternal life is:
 «And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent».
Eternal life is a long journey. The climax of eternal life will be in heaven; because it is there that we will gain the full knowledge of God, the full knowledge of Jesus Christ. Dear friends, we must focus our attention on God’s appeal that He expresses through Apostle Paul: flee sin, pursue righteousness and fight the good fight of faith so that we could lay hold on eternal life and abide in it.Tomorrow we will discuss it in more detail.Be blessed!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • The power and importance of forgiveness

    We are going to have a look at the two sides of forgiveness.Forgiveness is something, life on Earth would turn into the sufferings of hell without. Every human faces the question of forgiveness time to time. We like the word “forgiveness” when we receive it, but what about when we have to forgive somebody, give something away from yourself? Quite often we are not willing to do so. Though, the true understanding of forgiveness obliges us to notice two sides of forgiveness. Let’s have a look at the verses from Scripture that help us to see them.
  • Presence of God V

    God so desires for us to seek Him early in the morning. He so desires for us to return to Him. He wants to heal us and to bind up our wounds. God so wants to revive and restore us, so that we could live before Him. When we seek the Lord, when we seek to know Him, He comes and immerses us into His presence; He pours out His rain on us and waters the earth.Yesterday we talked about how Moses set up a tabernacle outside the camp for all seekers of the Lord. We also saw that instead of entering the tabernacle and seeking the face of the Lord, Israelites were simply observing how Moses spoke to God and how God answered Moses.
  • Spiritual discipline

    The paradox is that most Christians, who discipline themselves in other areas of their life in order to be successful – like job or carrier, do not believe they need to be disciplined in the area of godliness. We are talking about good Christians who are faithful members of the Church of the Living God. These are people who love God’s Word and often are very enthusiastic about the work of God. But because of the lack of discipline they do not reach their potential in God’s Kingdom.
  • What we sow is what we reap

    But it is also important to note that we reap a lot more than we sow. Without sowing we don’t reap at all. If you want to become great and bring fruit in the kingdom of God, if you desire for your life to have godly influence over other people, then you have to sow your life into others. There are no short cuts to greatness and true influence. It would be foolish to expect greatness, multiplication and fruitfulness without sowing. That would be deception!
  • If we follow Jesus in our life and let Him change us, all circumstances in our life will serve for good to us. Those who trust God will never be ashamed

    Why did God save us? Why did He call us? Why do we attend our church?Consider these questions! What has changed in your life of a christian during the last two years? Ask yourself this question seriously! Slow down before saying that changes are taking place in your life! Make a list of what exactly has changed in your life! Changes if those have really happened must be apparent and certain. As a christian who attends church, reads the Bible, prays and listens to outstanding teachings and sermons how have you been changed for the last 5 years?
  • How to walk in forgiveness

    Stop making excuses for your offenses.When we make excuses, it becomes more difficult for us to get out of the offenses. When we confess any manifestations of offenses and see them as sin before God, then we start walking in the right direction. It is quite possible that you were mistreated, but it does not give you right not to forgive. If your reaction on the things happening to you does not please God – and unforgiveness never pleases God, – then you need to repent and ask God to forgive you.
