What it means to accept personal responsibility

Dear brothers and sisters, I greet you today in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! It is not a secret that God delights in your success and fulfillment in life. However, this will never happens unless you accept some responsibility for your life. Today I want us to briefly look at what it means to accept personal responsibility. If you can remember, yesterday we talked about the fact that what defiles a person is not what is done to him, but his personal reaction to that. In the following Scripture we saw that neither the man nor the woman were willing to take personal responsibility for their actions.
„The man said, “The woman you put here with me–she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.» Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (GEN 3:12-13)
In other words, these people are saying we are not really responsible for what we ate. Someone else is responsible for that. They said that because they did not understand what it means to take personal responsibility.Accepting personal responsibility includes:
  • Acknowledging that you are solely responsible for the choices in your life.
  • Accepting that you are responsible for what you choose to feel or think.
  • Accepting that you are the one who choose the direction for your life.
  • Accepting that you cannot blame others for the choices you have made.
  • Removing the mask of defense or rationale for why others are responsible for who you are, what has happened to you, and what you are bound to become.
  • Pointing the finger of responsibility back to yourself and away from others when you are discussing the consequences of your actions.
  • Realizing that you determine your feelings about any events or actions addressed to you, no matter how negative they seem.
  • Recognizing that you are your best cheerleader; it is not reasonable or healthy for you to depend on others to make you feel good about yourself.
  • Not feeling sorry for the how worthless or useless you have been treated in life but taking hold of your life and giving it direction and reason.
  • Letting go of your sense of over responsibility for others.
  • Protecting and nurturing your health and emotional well being.
  • Taking an honest inventory of your strengths, abilities, talents, virtues, and positive points.
  • Developing positive, self-affirming, self-talk scripts to enhance your personal development and growth.
  • Letting go of blame and anger toward those in your past who did the best they could, given the limitations of their knowledge, background, and awareness.
  • Working out anger, hostility, pessimism, and depression over past hurts, pains, abuse, mistreatment, and misdirection.
God word for you today is this: are you accepting personal responsibility for your life or you are still rolling the responsibility for your life on others? Before you point the finger of blame to others next time, remember that your attitude and your actions is your total responsibility. No one but you is responsible for your words, your thoughts, and your actions. I wish you a blessed day! Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • How can we experience God in our life?

The God´s mercy is renewed for us this morning. The Bible says: «Let everything that has breath praise Yah!» (Psalm 150:6). If you can breath today – it´s a mercy of the Lord and a sufficient reason to praise and thank Him.Today I would like to begin a new topic called “How can we experience God in our life?” Studying the Bible we see God doing great feats through many people. He was able to realise His intentions using those people just due to their revelation and understanding of God´s key principles. While living in the different times, educated on a different level, belonged to the different cultures all Bible heroes basically have something in common. The secret of the success and feats they had is obvious – they knew God and interacted with Him. They experienced God´s power and His mercy in their lives. How did they succeeded? It became possible because they dedicated themselves to God. That´s exactly what God is inviting us to do.
  • The lordship of Jesus Christ

The phrase „Jesus is Lord!” is quite often used by the children of God. But being the children of God, we cannot treat this concept in a superficial or religious manner. The lordship of Jesus has a deep spiritual meaning. We should not casually proclaim or declare His lordship without the correct understanding of what it really implies. God wants us today to discover for ourselves what the true essence of the lordship of Jesus is and to act accordingly.
  • What is calling? How to reveal personal calling and how to enter it?

Recognising of your calling and your task in this life is a process that consists of many small details. Quite often, people try to reveal their calling, while neglecting those small details that make the whole process. Nowadays, many people are unhappy because they either lack revelation for their life or oppose to such revelation, or simply lack understanding of how to fulfil the revelation. Let´s figure it all out.First thing to know is the fact that you were born to carry out a certain task. Bible says our life on this Earth has a goal and value determined. You are not a result of an accident! You were born on this Earth not just for the matter of occupying some space and breathing. You´ve got a mission to fulfil, a way to measure. You are created to take care for others and saved to minister. There many places in the Bible talking about this. We are going to elaborate the verse from Paul´s letter to Ephesians 2:10
  • How does a truly responsible person look like?

Responsible person is not forgetful.Responsible person does not need to be reminded the same things over and over again. It is enough to say it once for a responsible person to bear it in his mind.A responsible person records all important information, significant assignments or appointments. If nothing can be required of you because you keep forgetting things, it means you are irresponsible. There are people around us that say all the time, „Sorry, I forgot”. Such people usually are irresponsible and unreliable.
  • We must be grateful to God in all things!

When things go fine and when God answers our prayers, it is easy to thank God, – at those times we thank God and adore Him. But as soon as God decides to answer us in a way that does not fit our plans, we start thinking whether there is any sense in prayer. The Bible calls us to thank God in everything. The Bible calls us to praise God aloud so that other people would hear it. Be grateful to God, praise him, and sing to Him – aloud! Thanksgiving is the very model of prayer that Jesus gave to His disciples.
