The importance of stopping all activities and being alone with God

Greeting to you, dear readers of „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”!
I want to share with you lessons from the life of a woman from Canaan that are recorded in Chapter 15 of the Gospel of Matthew. Many of us know this story very well.

«Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshipped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour» (Matthew, 15:21-28).

There are many different stories of women, mothers and fathers in the Bible. There are many biblical heroes who have left examples of how we need and how we do not need to live. The main idea of this story is mother’s reward for being persistent in prayer for her children.

Let’s try to look at this story more carefully. Here we see JesusHis disciples, a woman and her daughter, – they all played a particular part in this story. And the story left a certain impression on each of its players.
Firstly, we read that Jesus departed from a place and left for Tyre and Sidon. He moved away from the land of Judah or Israel and entered pagan territory to rest from ministry work. We can read about this in Mark (7:24):

«From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.»

Jesus came to Tyre and Sidon to find some solitude and rest from people because His last day was coming closer – the day of His death on Golgotha. Possibly, Jesus wanted to be alone with His Father to discuss what was awaiting Him on Golgotha. Thus, Jesus was showing us an example of stopping all activities and being alone with God. We also need – every once in a while – to leave all the clutter of this world and all its cares and to find time for being alone with the Father.
God is calling you today to find the right time and the right place to be alone with God even among all the cares and stresses of this world. By doing this you will be able to gain access to godly wisdom, receive peace from God and succeed in this life.
May God help you in it!
We will continue tomorrow.

The law of sowing and reaping governs how favour works. It is necessary to look at favour as a seed that must be sown. Jesus said that, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Matthew 5:7).In other words, Jesus is saying, “Blessed are those who have sown favour or mercy, because they will reap favour or mercy”.Generally, the level of favour operating in your life depends on the level of the seed of favour you sow into other people’s lives. This means that I cannot expect the harvest of favour in my life until I have not sown mercy into other people’s lives.

  • Lust brings sin, and sin brings death II

Lust is a strong desire or passion to something forbidden or unlawful. For example, the Bible says coveting your neighbour’s wife or his property is unlawful.«“You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbour’s.”» (Exodus 20:17).

How can we experience God’s presence in our lives?Possibly, there are several ways to do it, but it is very important to realize that it is impossible to experience God’s presence without prayer. God left the recipe of how to experience His presence in His Word.«Draw near to God and He will draw near to you» (James, 4:8а)

  • We are the new creation in Christ Jesus, made for good deeds the Lord has determined for us II

«For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.»(Ephesians 2:8-10).Here we can see that person is not made righteous by his deeds. God never declares somebody righteous by his many good works. Vice verse, God makes righteous those who accept His gift by faith, namely Christ Jesus. A person becomes good in God´s eyes by faith when he believes in good works God has done in Christ.

  • Sacrifice as a measure of love! IV

I want to tell you that singing to God, praising Him, enjoying His presence is not a difficult task at all, if we will only take a moment to reflect or think of His grace. Even when you are having very hard times in life, you can still find something in your life that you can thank God for. Even when you think everything in your life is falling to pieces and your situation is the worst on earth, nevertheless, continue to believe – you simply have not encountered a situation that is worse than yours. But, when you see such a situation, you will find that you live in paradise.

  • The counselling III

One of the ways we make ourselves qualified is to learn to listen to people, listen to their hearts and feelings; only then we can really help them.Besides, we must be ready to show the problem from a different perspective. It is not satisfactory to point out person’s problem or his or her mistakes; we must be able to highlight how his or her present lifestyle or approach to life has caused the problem.Today I would like us to look at another passage of Scripture.
