The importance of stopping all activities and being alone with God

Greeting to you, dear readers of „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! I want to share with you lessons from the life of a woman from Canaan that are recorded in Chapter 15 of the Gospel of Matthew. Many of us know this story very well.
«Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshipped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour» (Matthew, 15:21-28).
There are many different stories of women, mothers and fathers in the Bible. There are many biblical heroes who have left examples of how we need and how we do not need to live. The main idea of this story is mother’s reward for being persistent in prayer for her children.Let’s try to look at this story more carefully. Here we see JesusHis disciples, a woman and her daughter, – they all played a particular part in this story. And the story left a certain impression on each of its players. Firstly, we read that Jesus departed from a place and left for Tyre and Sidon. He moved away from the land of Judah or Israel and entered pagan territory to rest from ministry work. We can read about this in Mark (7:24):
«From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.»
Jesus came to Tyre and Sidon to find some solitude and rest from people because His last day was coming closer – the day of His death on Golgotha. Possibly, Jesus wanted to be alone with His Father to discuss what was awaiting Him on Golgotha. Thus, Jesus was showing us an example of stopping all activities and being alone with God. We also need – every once in a while – to leave all the clutter of this world and all its cares and to find time for being alone with the Father. God is calling you today to find the right time and the right place to be alone with God even among all the cares and stresses of this world. By doing this you will be able to gain access to godly wisdom, receive peace from God and succeed in this life. May God help you in it! We will continue tomorrow.Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • What is compassion?

We must understand that Jesus’ disciples were not perfect; quite the opposite, they are ordinary people with „character issues”. Jesus did not wait until they become perfect, but sent them out to serve people. He did not have anybody else to send; so He worked with what He had. And He is calling us to do the same today; it applies to every one who considers himself to be His disciple. Jesus desires for God’s children to be filled with compassion and to help people allowing God to touch all the people around them with His love.If we see someone perishing physically because of some illness, we do everything to save him. We often do not realize that unsaved people are spiritually ill, that they are perishing and need salvation. We must do everything in our power to save them. So our hearts need to go out to them with love and compassion.
  • Definitely write down the vision you receive from God!

First of all, you need a revelation from God. Learning to recognise the voice of your Heavenly Father and getting to know Him as your best friend is vitally important. God is willing to give you wisdom, understanding and revelation in every sphere of your life. Though, when a revelation and wisdom are received from God, you have to write them down in whole. Then it becomes a spring of life, that gives breathe to you and brings hope that releases faith and trust on God in you.To write something down means to record the vision a paper. We have to put it down clearly, the way it makes sense to us later. Thus, we can bring our vision into reality, so that we can expect it and put our hopes upon. This is one of the methods how to cling with the vision together and dedicate yourself to fulfil it. Prophet Habakkuk reminds us about the importance of writing down the vision you have received from God.
  • God’s purpose for the earth and the role of people in it

It says in the Bible that God rules and reigns over everything — in heaven and in earth. When we read Genesis, we see that God created men and also we read about God’s intentions for men. God created us to rule and reign on earth as God’s ambassadors. So God’s original plan was for people to be a ruler and care-taker for God. We can read about that in Genesis (1:26-28).
  • What other effects of unforgiveness can we see?

Unforgiveness destroys godly relationships and causes splits in the Body of Christ. There is so much chaos in the Church of Jesus Christ because of offended people. Many of them are not able to fellowship with one another and built friendship due to offenses and the fear of rejection. Many people build huge walls around them due to unforgiveness. They receive new „revelations” that separate them from the other people even more and make them passive.
  • Daily obedience to God in different areas of your life will bring you to your calling IV

«Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heave, that it cannot hear» (Isaiah, 59:1).God loves every person. He has prepared an amazing destiny for every one of us. Each person is born for specific purpose. Every one has a calling, but only the Lord knows what that calling includes. When a person fully submits to the Lord, then He opens to this person everything that concerns his or her calling.
  • Rejoice in the Lord! II

Dear friends, God once again delights to tell us to serve Him with gladness. Jesus once told His disciples: «Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven» (Luke, 10:20).If your name has been written in the Book of Life, if you are a child of God, then you are also a co-heir of Christ. And it is more than enough reason to motivate any of us to rejoice and thank God for every day of our lives.
