There are three main types of believers: observers, consumers/users and servants

May grace and peace be multiplied to you from our Lord Jesus Christ! I am happy to once again welcome you to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! I thank God for this wonderful opportunity to share with you the wisdom God has given me and encourage at least some of you.

For several days we have been discussing the blessedness of ministry. We established that through ministry we become entitled for continuous flow of God’s mercy. Ministry to others always fills our lives with blessings. But we shouldn’t be motivated by the desire to get God’s blessings; our motive is love for God and people which God sends into your life.

There are three main types of believers: observersconsumers/users and servants. What type of a believer are you? What are you: an observer, a user or a servant? Today we will attempt to establish what distinguishes observers and consumers from servants.

Observes do not care for what goes on around them; they demonstrate indifference. What happens in church does not concern him; he thinks that he only needs to attend Sunday services. He is there for the worship and the sermon and it is enough for him. Such a believer has no problems; he is doing fine at work and at home. He simply observes the events around him and he is happy. If you are an observer, then you must become a servant. God desires to change observers into ministers. The problem of observers is that Satan takes up all their time and gives them assignments. If a believer has been observing and has been inactive for a very long time, he tends to turn into a critic and judge.

Observers start saying: «This is bad! I don’t like it! This is a good sermon; I like it! But I don’t like that one. This brother is a good minister, but that one is not; I don’t like him». Observers only criticize; they have a lot of time to find fault with others. The ones that are immersed into ministry do not have time for such things.

The problem of consumers is that they are seeking for one thing only: they want others to solve their problems. The whole world revolves around them. Such people often start judging others. They say: «There is no love in this person, because he does not see my problem and is not working to solve it». Consumers only think of themselves.

A person once came to Pastor Yonggi Cho asking to pray for his problem. Pastor said to him: «I want you to pray for the revival in our country». It seemed so interesting to me: a person has a problem, he comes to be prayed for, and the pastor tells him that God also has a problem; the pastor tells him not to think of his own problems, but to think and to pray for God’s problem – to pray for the revival in the country.

A consumer is only interested in the solution of his problems. «Oh, I am so ill! I don’t have a job. There are no changes at home. I have so many problems. Pray for me! I want ministers to come to me». As human beings we can understand his situation. I am not saying we shouldn’t see the problems of others; of course, we have to. But his problem is that this is the only thing a consumer is concerned about: solution of his problems. Jesus also had problems, but He was out there to solve the problems of others.

«Let each of you look out no only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (..) But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel»(Philippians, 2:4-7, 19-22).

In this passage of Scripture Paul says that all seek their own interests. Paul was looking for true ministers, but there were very few of those. Why? Most people tend to seek their own interests. Paul often said: «This one left me. That one left me. They loved this world more». Why? When a person seeks his own interests he goes where it is profitable for him, despite the worldly and sinful influence of such actions.

What category of believers are you? It is a very important question. You still have time to change everything. God is still knocking on the door of your heart, and He desires for you to see that only servants are truly happy. We can please God only when we serve others.

Tomorrow we will discuss the third type of believers – servants. I wish you abundant God’s blessings!

  • How can our relationships with other people help us change?

All people need change; we help each other through relationships that we are involved. God alone does not need to change; all the people, on the other side, desperately need to change. We need each other and we help each other to change. If we do not understand it and lose sight of it, then it will be hard for us to build any relationships.
  • Love is spiritual, not physical power

When we walk in love it brings health and strength to our spirits. A strong spirit helps an individual to overcome all sicknesses. But if we give our hearts to hatred, bitterness, revenge, unforgiveness, it undermines our hearts. And when our spirits are weak, we are not able to withstand difficult situation and we fail in life. That is why it says, „who can bear a broken spirit?” Nobody! If you do not walk in love, you get ill, irritated and your hearts is filled with bitterness.
  • Value God’s Word! IV

Today I would like to continue talking about the importance of God’s Word.We saw what God spoke through Moses that God’s Word is our life. We also talked about the fact that our attitude towards the Word can either prolong our life or shorten it. We have already seen in the parables of Jesus that our attitude towards God’s Word determines the strength of our foundation, our life and all the things we are building. Yesterday we also talked about the fact that God’s Word is able to change our disappointments into joy, bankruptcy – into abundance. We saw all of it in the life of Peter. I would like for us to look at the verses that talk about Peter when he was utterly failing and ready to give up.
  • Follow me and I will make you!

Do you know that you are not all you could be yet? Only the Lord knows who you are created to be and He wants to make you become who you are really created to be. That is why He said “I will make you”.Peter and His brother were created to be Fishers of men, but they did not know that until they started to follow Christ. The bible said they straightway left their nets, and followed him. Their destiny was changed that very day. That was the point the Lord began to make them into who they were created to be.
  • We have to be ready to go wherever God sends us to

As we concluded yesterday, we have to become obedient disciples, so that our families, our church and our towns can be stirred. God uses obedient disciples to fulfil His prophesies and restore His will on Earth. Even more, we have to be ready to go wherever God sends us to. Thus we can fulfil our calling. Obedience to call begins with obedience to short instructions God gives to us through His word and our leaders in Christ. It´s also important to know that Jesus knows everything, He possesses all hidden information, necessary for our mission. That´s why obedience to the Lord who knows everything is vitally important! When Jesus had a need for a donkey to ride upon to Jerusalem, He knew where to find the animal. He knew where to go and find that donkey. He knew how to bring that donkey to Him.
  • Apart from Him there is no true satisfaction and happiness! III

We will continue about Solomon’s search for happiness, satisfaction and the meaning of life. We have already discussed that in the beginning of his life Solomon sought God and loved him, and God gave him wisdom and riches, happiness and fulfilment in life. But Solomon got caught up with superficial things of this world and started to follow other gods. Solomon started seeking for happiness and satisfaction in things and activities. He found only disappointment in them and then he turned back to his beginning. The story of Solomon is a lesson to all of us; it tells us that the meaning of life, happiness and satisfaction cannot be found anywhere but in God alone. So we need to develop and strengthen personal relationships with God.
