We can only be defiled by the things that come from within II

I thank God for you and I trust that this day will bring you great blessings as you meditate upon the word God has given us for this day.Yesterday we established that our reaction on other people’s actions and outside pressures indicate the true content of our hearts. We also saw that those things that defile us come out of our hearts.
«And He said, „What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man» (Mark, 7: 20-23).
The vices cited in this passage of Scripture are the cause of all the relationship problems among people. Imagine a person whose heart is full of these vices and some others, but thinks that he is alright and that he is growing in the Lord. Yes, he is alright until God starts uprooting all these rotten things through the relationships with other people. If we do not allow God to take off our mask and change us, then the relationships with people will fall apart in spite of our claims to believe God.But God does not desire for our relationships to be ruined. He wants to transform us into the image of His Son Jesus Christ. God uses people’s imperfection to open our eyes to the uncleanness that is in us. If we humble ourselves before God when we see the expressions of these vices in our lives, then He helps us to get rid of them. He wants to change us through relationships. He wants us to see what we are truly like on the inside and how much there is still that needs to change. It says in the Bible that human heart is deceitful and corrupt:
«The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of is doings» (Jeremiah, 17: 9-10).
Only the Lord knows the true condition of our hearts, and He wants to help us look into our hearts using the relationships we are involved in. Our views, actions and lack of actions, our words – all of these things cause particular reaction which determines the level of our spiritual maturity. The way we treat other people is the obvious indicator of our spiritual maturity. We start treating people differently as God transforms our character. We start treating them better than before; it includes our children, spouse, friends, brothers and sisters. We start to treat all of them like Jesus would. And we do it not because they have changes, but because we have. When we change, people around us change us well. So, what happens to us outwardly cannot defile us. We are defiled by the things that proceed from our hearts: our wrong reactions to the actions, words and behaviour of the people around us.Allow God to help you — to perfect you and change you into the image of Jesus Christ! I wish you God’s abundant blessings!Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

  • Changes always come from praying!

We talked about Hannah who did not give up even though she was barren and was being humiliated by other people; she kept on believing God and trusting that He would send her a miracle into her life and give her a baby. She did not plunge into despair and sense of helplessness, but daily brought her needs before God in fervent prayer.
  • What are you doing with your talent?

I pray that all of us would hear this not only with our ears, but with our hearts. This parable of Jesus is about the Kingdom of God. One of the things Jesus taught intensively was the Kingdom of God. And there were serious reasons for it. The kingdoms of this earth will pass away, and a new Kingdom will come – the Kingdom of God. Jesus brought God’s Kingdom to the earth, and He desires us to know this Kingdom, seeking it and living in it. It says in the Bible that first of all we must seek the Kingdom and its righteousness. It is not that easy, because there is another kingdom that opposes God and pulls our hearts. That is why Jesus spoke intensively about God’s Kingdom, and almost all of His parables are about God’s Kingdom.
  • Precondition for effective prayer is prayer in practice

Prayer must be practiced daily. We will not be able to become masters and professionals in what we do not practice every day. If we do not practice prayer, we will not know how to pray properly. Again I would like to emphasize one truth we spoke of last time. In the life for each of us, once the time comes when most of all we need prayer. But if we do not practice prayer daily, we will not be able to ask and receive the necessary assistance from God at that particular time. May this not happen with us.Prayer changes us and the things that are around us, it changes our world. Everyone can find that a prayer is power, it is a privilege for a believer from God Himself.
  • Transformed person is a person with the right and pure motives

Transformed person serves other people because he loves them, not in order to benefit from them. It makes me sad when I meet people who minister because it gives them a certain benefits. It´s awfully hard to change a person who has such motives. Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus was one of this kind. For three and a half years he had stayed with Jesus, but in no way it changed him, because he had sinister motives. Judas Iscariot was greedy, money loving man. Jesus put Judas in charge with financial part of His ministry, so he had access to money and offerings. First Judas began to steal money from their pay-box, later also betrayed his Master.
  • In order for you to be constant in this life you need to overcome human factor!

«And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word» (Mathew, 15: 22-23). At the time when a woman from Canaan was following Jesus and asking for help, His disciples were telling her to leave. That is what I call a human factor.
  • Listening to what God is saying is extremely important to every believer

15 times in the New Testament Jesus repeats the expression «He who has ears to hear, let him hear» (see Matthew 11:15; 13:9,43; Mark 4:9, 23; 7:16; Luke 8:18; 14:35; Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6,13,22; 13:9).The Philip’s translation of the Bible states it the following way: “The man who has ears to hear must use them”.
