What sin means?

Welcome, dear readers, to „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! I thank God for you and pray that your thirst for God’s Word, His wisdom and fellowship with Him would never cease, because God is the source of our life.

Yesterday we established that sins can be dividend into personal sins and sins of others. Today we will talk about personal sins and the sufferings the cause in more detail.

«Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear» (Isaiah, 59:1-2).

Deliberate disobedience to the will of God later cause much grief and disappointment into our lives. If you want to enjoy God’s covenant of provision, protection, and health then keep yourself from iniquity and evil.

«Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, bound in affliction and irons – because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the Most High, therefore He brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help» (Psalm,107:10-12).

In this Psalm we see some people who suffered and were in darkness; they were close to death. All of this happened because of their own sins. Sometimes we meet people that seem to be looking for trouble. If you rebel against divine standard and your life grows worse, it is not God’s fault. The one who sows the seed of disobedience should not wonder about problems growing in his life. Problems or trials that you cause by your rebellious attitude will never bring you joy. Sin gives birth to death!

Many people ask what sin is. Let’s try to answer this question.

When a person does not submit to God’s Word and despises His instructions, he or she sins. God has particular plan or will for every area of person’s life and it is spelled out in the Bible. But when you life according to your own wishes and do not pay attention to what God says about it, then tragedies are inevitable. For some time it may seem that you have outsmarted God, but this deceptive feeling won’t last long. These people sat in darkens and the shadow of death; they were bound in grief because they did not submit to God’s Word and despised His will.

«Fools, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their souls abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death» (Psalm, 107:17-18).

Look at the phrase in this Psalm: „Fools… were afflicted”. It talks about here that they could have avoided this suffering if they were wiser. But the suffering came into their lives because of their wicked ways and unrighteousness. We see here a description of what the Bible calls sin. First, sin is transgression and iniquity against God’s law. Second, sin is any lawlessness. When a person does lawlessness he sins.

«Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness» (1 John, 3:4).

It depends on you whether you will be among these fools that suffer “because of their transgression and because of their iniquities”, to draw near to the gates of death, or you will be among the ones who do right and walk God’s ways of life and blessings. The choice is yours!

God bless you on this wonderful day!

Till tomorrow!
