God’s purpose for the earth and the role of people in it III

Peace to you, dear readers of „Daily Word for Spiritual Edification”! We continue talking about how important it is for every one of us to realize our role and function in the earth. We saw that God created men in His image and according to His likeness so that we could fellowship with Him – spirit to Spirit. God created us in His image and likeness so that we would be able to accept His nature, holiness, His love and righteousness. God also did that in order for us to be able to walk in the supernatural dimension and to reproduce His nature in other people, thus multiplying and spreading His nature. God wants the earth to be filled with His nature and subjected to Him through His children. Today many people mostly emphasize different manifestations, anointing, gifts, talents and personal development. All of these things are important. But if we neglect the development of God’s character in us and do not make it a priority, if we forget to draw near to God and fellowship with Him, then we are doing not the will of God, but instead carrying out our own will. And as a result we are not able to bring glory to God. Let’s read a passage from Mathew:
«You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them» (Matthew, 7:16-20).
Here we see that Jesus pointed to the human character as it determines the type of fruit we bear. A person can be focused on fruit (by fruit we mean our actions, physical activities, our visible life), but not have God’s nature developed in him or her. A person can spend his or her energy on developing different personal qualities and doing works that appear good, but not have godly character. Without God’s nature in us we won’t ever be able to bear good fruit. A tree bears good fruit if its nature is good. God speaks a lot about our lives using the symbol of a tree. If I the root system of a tree is rotten, the whole tree too and the fruit it bears will be bad as well. So before getting to ‘work for God’, we should concentrate on building God’s character into our root system. That is the reason why God created us in His image and according to His likeness before he ever asked us to do anything. As we read further in Matthew 7, Jesus continues to say:
«Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! ’» (Matthew, 7:21-23).
Jesus says that human activities might appear beautiful, anointed and praiseworthy. But that is not what impresses God the most. The most important and impressive thing to God is not our action but the nature from which we are operating. By the way, it is not us that heal or prophesy or cast out demons, – God does all of it through us. It is a lot easier to demonstrate the power and authority of God, than it is show love to our neighbors. Love is what God expects of us. God tells us to love one another. Do you love the people he has asked you to love or are you just boasting of the things that God is doing through you by His sovereign grace? The gifts of the Spirit are what God’s Spirit does through us. However, when we identify ourselves with God and allow His love to move us, then we are able to spread His life around us; then we are able to rule and reign on earth. We will continue tomorrow! May God bless every one of you! Pastor Rufus Ajiboye

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James, 1:21).This is a very profound verse of Scripture that must be considered and closely examined. But I would like to draw your attention to several points. Here the Bible talks about the implanted Word which saves our souls. It resembles the process of engrafting a branch of tree into another tree, after which these trees become one, since they have the same root system. The implanted Word must be one with me. God wants His Word to be planted in my heart so that the Word and I become one because it is only then will the word be able save my soul.
  • Purpose for living II

Let’s look at the steps that Solomon took in order to find the meaning of life. We will see what conclusions Solomon came to. The first thing Solomon turned to was acquiring of wisdom and knowledge. «I communed with my heart, saying, „Look, I have attained greatness, and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge.” And I set my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is grasping for the wind. For in much wisdom is much grief, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow» (Ecclesiastes, 1:16-18).
  • Worthy Goal for Life

Every person has a goal, whether he talks about it or not. He is driven to do something. But if we talk about goals, it is important to determinewhether it is WORTHY or UNWORTHY. Paul had a worthy goal and talked about it all the time:«…according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.
  • How do we serve God?

We serve God by serving other people in His Name. To serve God actually means to serve other people in the Name of God or as the representative of God on the earth. It is to do good to others by meeting their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical or material needs as an act of our love for God. Please understand that your love for God will have a reflection your relationship with others. In the same way, your neglect of God reflects on how you relate to your neighbour.
  • What are the grounds or foundations of favour? II

Through faith in Jesus Christ we become clothed in his righteousness and nature. In the our spirit we have the perfect character of the Almighty God even though we do not become perfect in our actions immediately after becoming followers of Jesus. We reflect God’s life, character and thoughts more and more in our lives to that extent to which we submit ourselves to the new nature in our spirit. Our daily submission to God’s nature and character in us is what I call practical righteousness that qualifies us for God’s favour.
