How to develop a habit of prayer in our life? IV

Greeting to you all, my dear readers, and welcome to our column “Daily Word for Spiritual strength!” I pray to the Lord for each of you, so that you are always thirsty for the Word of God, His wisdom and fellowship with Him, since He is the source of life.Jesus said :
“ … for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Prayer unites us with our Heavenly Father, helps to know the depth of the His heart, His love and His plans for our life.Do you remember Daniel? He was a man of God, similarly to David, one, whose attitude to prayer and fellowship with God was very serious. In Daniel 6:10 we read:
«When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he bowed down on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before».
We know this story. There was a law recently adopted at that time that for thirty days nobody was allowed to pray to any god. The law had been signed by the king, so every person who broke that law could receive a harsh punishment. Ever before the law was adopted Daniel had already form a habit of praying three times a day. Therefore, to stop doing what he had been doing daily for a long time was extremely difficult to him. It was a very useful habit, indeed.Do any of you have such a habit? You´ve been told to stop, but you continue just because it´s your habit. Daniel was had the habit of praying to God three times a day. Whatever the circumstances, he just kept doing it. Neither David nor Daniel ever made an excuse like: “ I stopped practicing prayer because of my many problems, my unpleasant circumstances and severe rules of this country, I am going through a very difficult time now”. Surely they didn´t say that. Why? Because prayer had become their habit, a part of their life.Remember, your character is the sum total of your habits. Your behavior is a composition of a set of habits. Having prayer as your natural reaction to every little thing in your life, you will pray even when you are forbidden to do so. In such case you simply can´t prevent yourself from doing that. Some Christians bless food each time they have meal at home, but abstain from doing so outside their home when their with other respectable people. What does this tell us about them? Such behaviour is a hint to us that praying over their food is has not become a habit to them. Habit is something you can´t stop doing. Habit manifests as your natural reaction everywhere – at a party, in a restaurant, on a business meeting. Once praying has become your habit you practice it everywhere, regardless of the people around you and of what they think about it. As we have noticed, David and Daniel, both had such habit, they found the time for it on daily basis.According to the culture of Jewish people by the time when Jesus came to the Earth they all had form the habit of praying three times a day. Even though, many people, especially Pharisees turned their prayers into mere religious ritual, it became a routine for them by that time. That´s why Jesus reprimanded them for such approach, while teaching the others not to follow the Pharisees deeds. Pharisees had a rule of fasting two times a day and a rule of praying three times a day, but those rules were not written in their hearts nor do they did that with love for God. Once again I want to remind you that praying without love for Our Creator is not prayer at all, it is rather a formal and dead, ritual that produces no changes in your life. Prayer is a love relationships man and God
«If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal..» (1 Cor.13:1).
May the Lord bless you today!See you tomorrow!Rufus Ajiboye, pastor

  • Worthy Goal for Life II

Yesterday we started talking about our goals. Everyone has them. We discussed that there are worthy and less worthy goals. We also saw that after meeting Christ, Paul devoted his life to Him; earnest expectation of Christ to be glorified in his body and through his life became his main goal in life. It is very important to ascertain for ourselves what our goals are.You and I have been justified by faith in Jesus Christ and we have peace with God. But it is just the beginning. Having been reconciled with God is just the beginning of the Christian walk. What awaits us afterwards? Through faith we gain Access to God’s grace and we expect the glory of God to be progressively revealed in us and through us.
  • Without certain changes in our lives we won’t be able to receive God’s vision

The first thing God did to Abram was that He took him out of the tent, out of his comfort zone. While we stay within our comfort zone where we feel at ease, where we do not need to make an effort, where everything goes according to the habitual scenario, we are not able to see what God wants to show us. For this reason God often desires us to get out of our comfort zone, out of our routine lifestyle and for us to put forth some effort to expand our knowledge of the will of God for our life.

  • Value God’s Word!

Today God wants to tell us the same thing. The Word of God is life to us. When God sends us His Word, He offers us life. Rejecting the Word of God we reject life itself. Moses says about God’s Word: «For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life…»It is extremely important for us to appreciate the Word of God and not to treat it as something futile, – it is not like a song that we have listened to and then gone to do our own will. It should be to us like the greatest treasure. We have to value God’s Word, to hide it in our hearts, to appreciate it because it is life to us. God says that through the Word and through our right attitude towards it we can extend or prolong our days. Our attitude toward the Word determines whether we will extend our life or shorten it.
  • God wants His children to be a part of the solution for His needs! II

« Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; … Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; Because they hated knowledge, And didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh. » (Proverbs 1:24, 28, 29).In these verses God tells us about the necessity to change our attitude towards His call, otherwise He would not listen to our calling the time we run to Him with our petitions. Forget about your own problems and take part in finding solutions for the needs and problems God has today, He will become a part of a solution for your problems then.
  • Changes through Ministry III

Ministry helps us to live for others not just for ourselves. When a person has a servant or serving heart, his life is focused on making other people happy instead of waiting on the other people to make him happy. Somebody with such an attitude and life position has no time for depression or for self-pity. His life is rather focused on searching for and helping other people who lives in poorer conditions himself instead of sitting around celebrating self- pity party. The person who understands the purpose of true ministry doesn’t live for himself, but his goal is to love God and to love other people.
